PhysX hardware gets killed off

AMD HAS to make a move now. I'm pretty sure that NVIDIA will enable the PhysX SDK to work with any (additional) graphics card that is installed. That was obviously the major point in acquiring Agaeia. This will be a huge selling-point for NVIDIA graphics cards in the future and it will increase the sales of higher-end products because customers will be able to upgrade slow CPUs for games that support hardware-based physics calculation via a graphics card much better than it is possible now. The CPU will be freed from work-load even more.

What AMD needs to do is release a very similar Physics-SDK that works with Radeon chips, so game developers can possibly use both. Or they create a drop-in replacement for PhysX, which might be optimal for developers (no doubled work).

I'm really interested in how the future might look like.

Nah, only the hardware is. The physics-engine wll live on, I guess.

That was to be expected, anyways. A GPU in the price-range of the PhysX-card has more horse-power anyways. And soon it can be used just like the PhysX-card, with an updated PhysX-SDK.
