Petition against proposed filesharing law

Hello!

Firstly, I’m dead against file sharing illegal files...

Right, as I’m sure most of the Brits on this forum are aware that the dark lord (lord madelson) is trying to pass this as law in the UK. He wants to disconnect people from the internet if caught file sharing. This all without an actual trial.

The only methods I’m aware of to identify someone would be by their IP address, there has been a fair few stories in the media regarding mistaken identity using this method. So anyone innocent could be cut off without even a fair trial!! Without a single way of defending yourself.

I think there needs to be a change in the law, but certainly not this. I should also point out that they’ve hidden a policy that will allow them fast track any future changes to this policy.

If you’re like me and against this idea, please sign the following partition;

Although file sharing is illegal and wrong, I think this is just another controlling aspect of the UK. They're not doing it to better the digital community, but to have more power in which they can screw us over with. So I signed, but not for the fact of illegal file sharing.

Signed.

Every day we lose freedom.

That's exactly it. The notion of cracking down on filesharers is absolutely fine by me but this is compromising privacy and freedom. If we're not cautious, privacy will be lost and surely enough, we're guilty unless proven otherwise. What happens if I'm linked to inappropriate content while moderating other forums? What if someone else finds their way onto my wireless network and uses internet connection registered to me to download and/or distribute files illegally? What about youtube content that cannot be proven to be legal content until the link has been pressed?

The way I see it, it's only a matter of time until ISPs receive "incentives" that result in the loss of internet transparency and the rise of "content" based internet packages.

It'll be another trip along the road of franchising the internet in every way.

Don't know what makes them think this or anything will hamper filesharing illegally. It'll hit the average person more, cos the illegal stuff will always find a way.

If it wasn't for file sharing I would have bought almost half the games, dvd's and albums that I have now. I test stuff first just like many other people. I did it with COD 6, and now I'm going to buy the game next week. Deductive reasoning shows that if it were not for file sharing, the economy would not have gotten my money. Multiply this by say, a quarter of file sharers, and you have a lot of money missing.

but isnt 3 quarters of file sharers a bigger loss of money than 1 quarter? :p

It is, but who is to say that because they have to pay for it they will? Most of them probably wouldn't. I can go for a long time without seeing a film if the only way to see it is to pay. If I can get it for free and it's good, I'll buy it.
