It's only 2 months until the expected release of PCI-Epress 2.0, speed and bandwidth enhancements aren't all that's on the cards; there's also provision for virtualisation leading up exciting tech such as AMD's 'Torenza' or Intel's Geneseo. Think we`ll all hold a party, or maybe start a charity for the ole`PCI slot. It`s destined to go the way of the ISA, with grandchildren asking their grandparents - "what`s this white slot for here ?" - as opposed to "what was that black edge connector slot for ?"

It`s about time they sorted themselves out, imo, and settled on a single slot shape and continued to clock up the cycles. It`s pretty presumable now that prehaps cards can be designed in a way that they can identify what sort of slot u`ve plugged them into and negotiate with the mobo as to how their use is intended and executed. No more moving cards about coz things clash on interupts.

Hey we could call it plug`n`play ..

Some kind of universalality (oo just made up a word) needs to be done.
