PC Power & Cooling Deluxe 510 Smoking Inferno

Hi all

Just thought I'd tell you all about the phenomenon that occured 20 minutes ago in my bedroom! There I was listening to Winamp lying on my bed just relaxing and I heard a clicking sound, but thought nothing of it!

So I went to get a drink before watching the TV when I went downstairs the Fire Alarm went off! Again I thought nothing of it, and asked my mother what she was messing with the fire alarm for and she said there was a fire upstairs and told me to investigate! I obliged! When running up the stairs I could smell smoke and thought It can't be my computer it was still happily playing Winamp (Impressive, it blows up and still powers my machine)! but I noticed the smoke was in my room and it was infact my computer! From the blowhole on the PC60 came billows of smoke! So I powered down and inspected more!

A shame really as this undoubtedly the best power supply I have ever had!

Well that is my story! Maybe boring but thought I'd tell you about the only time the thing has let me down!

I'm a little baffled mate - so are you saying the psu went up or what? Had you adjusted the pots at all?

Nope never needed to touch them! It just went! No idea why, just did! I'm sure PC Power & Cooling will tell me when they replace this one! 5 Year warranty - Very handy!

hmmm, very odd. I've just purchased one of those and its been terrific so far. Does get rather hot during intensive apps/games, but it has giant heatsinks inside and my case is well cooled, so I'm not especially bothered. Wonder if it was a huge surge or something, how long had you been using it?

wats ur idle and load 3.3, 5v and 12v rails readin m8?

Mine? Sould I be worrying? Doesn't yours get hot? I do have the same motherboard as you.

Voltages are

3.3v= 3.312 Idle-3.296 load.

5v= 5.08 Idle, never seems to alter.

12v= 12.038 Idle-11.977 load.

CPU=p4 3.4 extreme, temps are 34-36deg Idle and 53deg after 45 minutes of simultaneous 3dmark 03 and Prime 95 toture. PSU fan spins up high during this and other games.

Everyting does seem very stable at the moment.

Strange yes! But PC Power and Cooling were excellent they have sent me a new one out today! And given me their FEDEx account number to send the other one back to them!

Was the PSU's fan blocked in any way? stray wires, dust or something? I had a PSU that was emmitting smoke once because the fan in it just siezed up, too much dust I suppose. I changed the fan and all was well.

I don't think so! It wasn't that dusty! I got a replacement now anyway! I think it was a power surge, that blew it up and I now got a Surge protector just in case!

Im happy theyve sorted u out so fast, and that ur getting a new one shipped to u as we speak...

Im glad to say ive always ursed surge protecters so i should never have that happen to me..

Yeah I know it was depressing and not being able to use my comp for a couple of days was sheer HELL!

Got a nice Belkin with £Unlimited payback if it still goes tits up so I'm OK now and it only cost £30!
