By the end of 2018, the PC Gaming Hardware market will be a $30 billion industry, research suggests. Whereas the value of the industry was valued at about $24.6 billion, Jon Peddie Research predicts that the market will steadily grow in the next few years.

Don't agree with this. Every quarter PC shipments fall more and more. That is including more than gaming hardware too(exlcuding monitors as mentioned in the article). Can't see how it'll rise. Many experts are predicting a slight resurgence in 2017 but not the amount this suggests.

Valid point. It's quite a shame we can't view the reports (it is available for purchase, but at $15,000). I think they mentioned that 4K monitors are now available at a 'mass market price level'. 4K becoming more mainstream could positively influence the sales of high-end hardware (being a lot more demanding than 1080p). The launch of VR headsets might influence this too. I'm guessing this is their point of view, though I can't say that for sure.

Hopefully some of the stuff that Valve's been doing will inspire people to buy more PC's. Microsoft's W10 might help as well. Especially since they're trying to shove it into every device from phones and tablets to laptops and desktops. It might give people a reason to get a new Windows 10 PC.

Ya they said all that but that's also taken into account by the people who do this for a living in stocks/market trends/etc have put into account. They still said a small bump. While gaming on PC software wise is growing rather than regressing, that still won't help the hardware side. You only need one PC= one set of hardware, to run multiples of software= all the games in your steam library, Lol,WoW, etc. So if they claimed software for gaming will hit $30bil by 2018 I would probably agree. Just not hardware. Last quarter I believe they had the biggest decline in PC shipments since the start of 2013. Think it was 10% total down to about 165million units. Each company basically took yet another loss. Just can't see it hitting $30bil even adding in Monitors/K&M(if they included that). 4k and VR alone can't change that.

Now if 4k and VR can actually cause this huge skyrocketing in the industry, I'm all for it. Just can't see it happening unfortunately.

I agree, I'm a bit sceptic about this too, but I thought it was a nice subject for a news article. Even so, I think VR will have a huge impact on the market, but not VR on PC. I think most people will opt for something like PlayStation VR. Not necessarily because it's better, but because it only requires a £350 console instead of a £1k+ PC. I know I'm considering to get one (Gran Turismo Sports and all).

That's a great point. Price of a VR capable machine vs a PS4. Granted the graphics won't be nearly as good but I don't think VRs main point is the graphics anyways. Also that PS VR doesn't count towards the PC Gaming Hardware industry so still won't help boost the numbers at all:/

I'm interested in the Crytek engine that they just demoed. Can't remember what it's called but it had a dinosaur.. now a t-rex charging you in VR might actually just make you crap your pants lol

Agreed. It's interesting that the PS VR is capable of 'virtual 120Hz'. It supposedly has some software in it that makes the games feel like they're played at 120 fps, which is cool. It really is a shame VR is so demanding on PC. I think the HTC Vive would do great, if only the minimum system requirements weren't as high as they are. I think the Vive has so much potential (higher resolution than Oculus, oddly elegant design imo).

Yeah, I think it was called something like Robinson: the Journey. It looked amazing, and that flying robot reminded me of that AI character in Portal 2 (can't remember his name, it wasn't GlaDoS though). If I do end up getting a PS VR, that's something I'd really look forward to.

I'd imagine its the same technology as in the 240hz monitor that was out a while ago. Its just a trick they do with the backlight that basically flashes twice as fast as the screens refresh rate (IIRC, feel free to correct me).
Also virtual 120hz won't be worth it if it can't get the frame rate needed to sustain 60hz

That may be true in countries like the UK, USA and Aus but when it comes to Germany? they are PC gaming animals.

Don't forget dude this is global, so not just limited to one country.

That is the report on each companies global shipments/total shipments. Also a small resurgence to the market is expected in 2017, but not to the extent that this guy is saying.
