Hi guys, first i would like to apologise in advance as i have know doubt there is already quiet a few post's on this subject. I'am realatively new to posting on the forum and was looking for some help on which board to buy? In the next few months i'll be hoping to start my first self build all be it it will consit of a new case, motherboard, processor, graphics card and cooler, as i'am on a tight budget the rest of the parts needed will come from my excisting rig.

The new rig is only going to be used for gaming and surfing the web (80% gaming 20% surfing) and nothing else. I will be using a I5K unlocked cpu as most of the review's seem to say that its the best for gaming, the case will be a coolermaster HAF X, corsair H80 cooler and a Sapphire 7950 OC card.

I will also be overclocking the cpu hopefully to somewhere over the 4GHz mark and this will also be a first for me as i have never overclocked before.

So hopefully that will give you some insight into what i will be getting and what i will be using it for, the boards that i have been looking at are the P67-Asus Maximus IV Extreme and the Z68-Asus Maximus IV Extreme-z, from what i have read about the two boards i still cant really make my mind up, so any help and suggestions would be great.

Thanks mate i will at some point be doing the same as you with the ssd drive and the hhd drive and the hhd drive will be as a back up drive but i'am not really intrested how fast they swop and share information as the ssd drive will be a boot drive and run my games. For the amount that i've got on my hhd drive at the moment i could fit it all on 250GB ssd and still have some left over. As for the on board graphics it will always be a separate graphis card and any onboard will be turned off.

So it looks like the P67 will do me just nicely?

Looking at your set up is there any benifit from going to I7K cpu's rather than I5K?

There is no real benefit choosing an I7 over the I5 for gaming. The only reason I got the I7-2600K is because I wanted the extra power because I do 3d rendering and animation as a hobby.

Thank's for that mate, i don't know a lot about pc's and there componets and any help is much appreciated as i'am on a tight budget and need to get the set up right first time.

I hear you, good luck on your build and share some pics when you have it finished.

definetly go with a z77 board if you dont use socket 1155 yet, their almost the same price as good p67/z68 boards and why buy the old stuff if there is new stuff for almost the same price

agreed been doing some price checking and to tell ya the truth i havent seen Z68's drop much if any. They are becoming EOL (End of Life) I just rma'd my Z68 ud4 and the customer support person said yeah we still have a few here thery are now EOL. I got lucky cuase otherwise they would of had to repair mine and send it back leaving me down for several weeks.

Get a Z77 board and dont look back.

i guess SB has me spoiled. the new tech on the z77 hasn't offered better whistles. true EOL is a factor,

but i see a lot of NOS inventories with a 30-50% discount to move the lines. only thing i need is memory

speed controller betterment for a RAMDisk of 7GB+ transfer speeds. 2133 is great but my overclock

suffers a bit on the four stick arrangement.

like pretty much the crowd says, if you dont have a board now, use the Z77 based boards.

mate the mem management is better on the Z77 boards specially the Asus ones. There made for packing all 4 slots and using ram disk . ya might wanna look into it.

Thank's for the advice guy's, I haven't really looked at any of the Z77 board's as yet because this might sound really anal but i have had my heart set on a ROG board for ages and the only Z77 board they have at the moment is a micro ATX board. Also i was hoping to have a red and black theme going with the build, dose's anybody know if ROG will be releasing any other Z77 in the future? as it will be around about August before i start the build.

i hate board changes!.. wwwwaaaaaaaaaa your gunna guilt me into this aren't you SIN?

i've been looking only.. no other real advantages for me on the new tech. but i'd really

like to cut my vid renders down to a better time and RAMDisk has done that, but i want

more! ugh.... *stay on target.. stay on target.....
