File-sharing suffers major defeat

The US Supreme Court has ruled that file-sharing companies are to blame for what users do with their software.
The surprise ruling could start a legal assault on the creators of file-sharing networks such as Grokster and Morpheus.

The case was brought by 28 movie and music makers who claimed that rampant piracy was denting profits.

The Supreme Court judges were expected to rule in favour of the file-sharers because of legal precedents set when video recorders first appeared.

AHHH DAMNIT this is another 'great' ruling from the land of the 'free' (joke - If you liked this great freedom inhibiting Law see also the PATRIOT act)

but it will be interesting to see what anon or encrypted P2P systems show up now or.. maybe companies will base their servers /companies in finland where there are no computer laws and ascend digital sharing to a whole new [higher] plain

ohhhh well who uses the P2P Network here atm anyway ?

I used it the last time almost half a year ago to get "legal" stuff.... YES YOU CAN DOWNLOAD LEGAL STUFF PER P2P !

But thats pretty weird... how can they do that... doesnt make sense at all.

Good that Bit Torrent isnt a sharing network... that would sure be the next thing to attack for them.

It's all about the money isn't it. Fecking pekcer heads. I hate this world, people can be so greedy. Meh, actors & companies have enuf money....

lol that could be classified as wrong. Companies just have money because they actually sell products ;)

And each time you steal Software it becomes harder for these companies.

I mean ok we think about microsoft... I mean... come on why do they even care who steals their stuff ? They sell it with all the DELL Systems etc anyways...

But lets see the small coming companies... They dont have a chance if you steal the software from them... So....

Yeah Bram Cohen the programmer and intellectual property owner of BitTorrent is now assisting Valve with their steam distribution system and also the 'Open source' movement with their distribution problems. So P2P isn't all bad :)
