Hi guys,

i am new to this forum and i need help overclocking my q6600 on maximus formula. I am new to OC. So i need step by step guide, so that i can overclock my cpu safely. I am giving the pics of my Bios and the temps of my cpu under stress test.

Also i am sending the pic of my Bios. So you can get the idea what i have to do. I am a beginner mate. I dont wanna screw things up.

This link is for the CPU ADVANCED SETTINGS

Now you can tell me what i have to do.If you need anything else just tell me.

MY SPECS ARE:

iNTEL Q6600 2.4GHZ USING OCZ VANQUISHER FOR THE COOLING (AIR COOLING)

OCZ REAPER DDR2 800MHZ

PC & POWER COOLING 750WATTS

Thanks you

Read this first. Then look in this very section and read the other 300 threads on this.

Anything you are then unsure on, feel free to come back and ask about.

mate i am tired of searching on google and here. IN FACT no one gives me the right answer. They all say go here first and read this and that. Can't anyone give me the steps for overclocking.

mate, this bios is completely different from Mine. Why dont you take a lot at my bios screenshots and just tell me what exactly i have to change.

because that takes alot longer than you think..

Set the PCI-E to 100Mhz

Set the Vcore to 1.35

Set the fsb to 333 With a multi of 9.

That should get you to 3.0ghz

Then just tweak the fsb and vcore to get the highes u want. Set the PCI-E at 100 and leave it.

All the guides are the same, and all bios's are pretty similar.

As mentioned, its a good idea to read one of the various guides available that will give you a sound knowledge of the basics.

However, from your screenshots, this is what we'd change - though there is more to do.

I've not worked on one of these boards for a while so apologies for the brief explanations.

1. Disable Speedstep - not essential but most overclockers do this.

2. If CPU ratio is changed from Auto to manual, that should allow you to set the FSB, for 3.2Ghz you'll need 355Mhz with a multiplier of 9. Setting the ratio to manual will give you divded RAM speeds - select the closest to what your RAM is rated to run at, bearing in mind most "average" RAM these days doesn't even run at it's rated speeds.

3. Set the PCI-E frequency to 101mhz

4. Set the Vcore to 1.35v (whats your VID by the way?)

5. Set the RAM voltage to the manufacturers rated voltage and set latencies.

6. Disable load line calibration.

7. Disable all Spread spectrum controls.

How much RAM do you have and is it 2 slots or 4?

That is an extemely basic pointer and only somewhere to start from - additional tweaking will certainly be required in order to get your system stable (to our standards).

Let us know how you get on with that. If it's no POST on the first attempt, clear the CMOS and start again, but I can't see any problems with those settings provided you have a good chip (VID) tbh.

These are some of the settings we commonly use on our rigs here and rarely have any problems, but occasional issues can occur.

Just set the FSB up to something nice like 400 :D thats what I did (Q9450) and worked perfectly, 3.2Ghz no need to tweak voltages etc, but I think I got very lucky :D
