Overclocking Phenom II X4 955

Hello everyone, the last few days i've been overclocking my fairly old Phenom II X4 955, i got it running at 3.6GHz without touching anything but the multiplier, as i moved up to 3.7GHz it became unstable running Prime95, so i tried increasing the vcore, though it did not help at all, its still unstable and 3.7GHz even with 3 increases in the vcore so i could use some advice on how to get it higher? surely a Phenom should be able to get more than 3.6?

im running 16GB(4x4)HyperX Genesis 1600MHz RAM in a ASRock 870 Extreme3 R2.0 for your information.

As i said its a fairly old chip, so i dont really care about it breaking as i can use that as an excuse to get a new one

Have a look at Dugdiamond and his post in this section. It says hexcore, but there is no difference in method.Think you need a little more base-knowledge,howto do it, oc an Amd PII.

I have read his thread, just re-read it again to make sure i didn't miss anything, i have tried the methods that he describes in the thread but none of it changes the stability of the chip, i even tried lowering the multiplier and raising the FSB, so that i was running and 3.62GHz and it was unstable there, it did not help raising the vcore or NB voltage, i've been working on this for multiple days and this is my last resort because i simply dont know what is conflicting.

not every chip will overclock the same

it is the 'silicon lottery'

oh, btw - asrock mobos are crap for oc-ing

msi or asus

i have a msi 870a fuzion power edition (excellent am3 overclocker)

or i would get an asus formula5 or sabertooth

these mobos will OC very well, but... as for gigabyte i do not know, as the only gigabyte mobos i have had are for intel

you also said that you did not mind killing the cpu and it seems you are looking for a new mobo now - lol

IMHO... go i5-2500k

Oh and btw, I'm not some mean chip killer i meant in as i don't care much about the life-span of the chip i just want 100% performance from it, but i guess ill have to settle with 3.6

I got a geekbench score out of my 955 @4.5GHz, Think I won the silicon lottery

Mines been running 1.45v 4.01GHz for just under a year, it's passed over 24hrs straight of P95 with 4x2GB sticks of ram, countless hours of intensive gaming, many many hours encoding Blu-Ray movies at 100% usage, great little chip!

Same here. Stuck at 3.6ghz(200x17), and even with fsb set to 210 (3.78ghz) i get bsod. What cpu volts are you using? Mine is at 1,38.

I have no idea about ram and nb volts though, so haven't touched them yet...

When volts set to 1.39 it changes color to yellow in bios? Should i be aware of that?

Im using Asus M4A89GTD PRO btw.

hmm - isnt 200*17 3400 ? (not 3600)

and 210*17 = 3570 ????

Im running at 200x18 with nothing else touched at stock voltage (1.35) and its stable there, touching any thing else does nothing to the stability for me
