Say hello to the newest member of the family. A Compaq Presario CQ60-420SA. Athlon X2 QL-65 CPU, 3GB PC2-6400 DDR2 and GeForce 8200M-G graphics. This poor orphan was dumped on me by the brother-in-law after he, for some strange reason, tried to fold it in half like a book.
It still runs, but he has broken the screen brackets that attach the lid to the hinges, the front bezel, and he’s pulled the fixed nuts out of their housing in the lid. He has also snapped one of the Wi-Fi aerial leads, but that still works anyway so it’s just a case of splicing the cable back together.
I don’t really have the money for the parts at the moment, so I’m going to run it off of an external 19” monitor for now.
This is the first laptop I have had complete control over, so I think I’ll try and overclock it, the wife won’t let me near the one she got two birthdays ago, but we shall see. Also, as I have to take it apart, I might as well try experimenting with a bit of watercooling on the CPU. Would it still be a laptop if I take everything out of the casing and watercool it.
Before I strip it naked though I will overclock it and run the benchmarks to see what it can do.
