Overclocking Gigabyte Gtx 580 SOC

Hi all,

I recently bought this card and then I watched the ttl review on YouTube, Tom clearly states that you would be mad not to overclock it however I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to overclocking so haven't trident it yet. What puts me off is that I assume if I break it even with a mild overclock that would be my £420 down the drain? I don't have that right now to replace it.

Anyone have experience with overclocking this card?

Yes, I bought it end of last week and overclocked it within minutes of getting it out of the box.

download MSI afterburner, install, then run it. On the core clock section, increase it to 900, then run Unigine Tropics on loop for half an hour (I went for a curry lol)

Then if it doesn't crash out on you, increase it to 950 and do the same

Post back with results.

Hi there,

I OC'd my GTX580 from day one. I had it running at 930 for a while, upped it to 940 a bit after, it runs fine at 950 right now, it does get a bit hot though, between 80-90 degrees while gaming. Mainly BF3

between 80-90 is hot, honestly at the max i wouldn't want to see a GPU above 85

it wont actually kill your card that fast but with higher then normal stock voltages and those temps it wont hurt placing some more/better fans in your case or backing up the voltage/clocks on your 580

just friendly advice

Yep, I wouldn't be happy with anything over 80 C to be honest.
