Overclockers.co.uk run by gangsters ?

I was talking to my next door neighbour today and we got on to the topic of overclockers.co.uk and their inflated prices and it turns out they are a very shady company indeed and he advised me to steer clear of them.

Now my next door neighbour is retired CID, Retired about a year ago'ish so I'm guessing he knows what hes talking about, It's not like I heard it from my Aunties, Cousins, Dogs, Girlfriends,Hamsters twice removed bunk mates brother.

Come to think of it I'm not really surprised, What do the OC3D community think ?

Interesting, just today I stumbled upon this thread via an old build log: link.

Although I've never personally dealt with OCUK (mostly use Aquatuning). The one British W/C
store I've tried is specialtech, and they have been great.

They're really not as bad as other companies. Take for example WAE+. IF you do a google search for certain products, chances are you'll see that they usually offer said products at much lower prices than anyone else. They have nice, legitimate looking website with free delivery from "UPS". 9/10 times you will not receive a product from them and instead you'll probably have to go as far as threatening legal action(Don't believe me? google WAE+ reviews, I wish I had :/.). Personally I think companies like WAE+ are a much worse than overclockers, who I've used to buy a couple of bits 'n' pieces from in the past and they've been fine.

I probably should've made it clear I was talking about the people who run WAE+ being on a whole new level of dodgy . I'm currently having to deal with them y'see and everything smells of fish.

Back on topic, I'm a bit surprised about overclockers being run by dodgy people. I'd like to know what he meant by dodgy though. I'm presuming he didn't elaborate? After a quick bit of research, it does seem that the reviews of them online are either too good to be true (pointing to fake reviews?)or very negative . How suspect.

lmfao run by gangstasss!

Not the likes of the godfather but some very dodgy goings on.

No he didn't elaborate he just said I should stay well clear of them, I'll try and get a few more bits of info from him when I see him next.

OCUK used to be ran by a complete prick called Mark Proudfoot.

I wouldn't say he was a gangster or shady, just more of an egotistical racist prick.

He once had a thread up on the OCUK forums titled "Why do pakis smell".

It went down like a lead balloon of course, racist asshole..

Any way nothing to worry about now as OCUK was bought out by Caseking.de last year.

I have heard good things about Caseking.de as my brother lives in berlin and has ordered from them before.
I might start shopping with OCUK again seeing as they have been bought out by a decent company :)

Good to know. Caseking act as a supplier for W/C and modding gear for a few retailers here
in Switzerland as well. They once mixed up an order (got the HW Labs GTX560's instead of
the SR-1), but it was promptly rectified.

So yeah, I can't say anything bad about CK tbh :)

Wasn't OCUK bought by that German case company website Casekings.de?

The previous owners might have been a bit dodgy, don't really know though.

EDIT: nvm someone already mentioned it.

Just a quick note to remind some of you to watch your language. It doesn't matter that you're feeling particularly heated about this subject, you all need to keep your cool.

They're a great company however sadly it seems they are letting the old staff do their pricing so the same issues persist. IE - everything is overpriced, then they have super specials where they put the prices to where they should be for a bit to make people buy :D

Were these dodgy guys Mods or Rockers?

Ran into an old work mate the other day, we worked at Bosch together. I had not seen him in a couple decades. He is originally from the UK, lived on The Isle of Wight in the 50's maybe 60's and then and all around London before he came to the US in the later 70's...he and his mum moved a lot he said. Never would elaborate on why. He used to tell me about the Mods and Rockers, he had been a Rocker.

Back in the past decade I'd made lots and lots of purchases with them. Then one day I tried to make a purchase and it wouldn't go through. A few minutes later I received a telephone call from my bank where they told me that they wouldn't be allowing me to make purchases through the Overclockers website due to widespread fraud.

My bank claimed that many of their customers were having fraudulent purchases made on their accounts after using overclockers website and they said that overclockers were difficult to deal with when it came to getting the money back afterwards. Strangely the person said if I called overclockers over the telephone and made the order that way then it wouldn't be declined and that their issue was only with the website payment portal. It was inferred that their website was in some way insecure, possibly storing credit card / debit card details in a way that made them accessible to people who shouldn't have them.

Ever since then I've not made any purchases on their site and to be honest their prices were usually higher than the competition anyway.

How would your neighbour even know ? Working in CID isn't the answer by the way, I'm not sure why you would think him being a retired cop means "he knows what he is talking about" when it comes to OCUK.

He would know because he use to buy from them and had nothing but trouble, Like nitpicking much ? :p

I was a mod. Had several Vespas :)

Cool!

I wasn't sure how my comment would be taken, just my sense of humor. :) Only thought of it since I ran into him recently, so our old talks while working were on my mind. We could work 12+ hour days at times together in large control cabinets doing the wiring and installation of the electronic control systems, so we talked about everything. I learned a lot about his childhood in the UK. Been a long time, wish I could remember more details. He could out talk me.

ON TOPIC: So far I have had nothing but good experiences, but have not bought anything much (just some cheap electronic parts) on-line in years and last time was on E-Bay, some tools I don't think the woman knew what she had or didn't care. I bought Craftsman C3 3/8" drill, C3 1/2" hammer drill, C3 impact screwdriver and 4 batteries for what just the 1/2" would cost. I was surprised they were all new when I got them. I just wanted the hammer drill and impact. I already had a 3/8", so sold it and 2 batteries and nearly got my money back.
