Hi Guys

I have a qx9650 and nvidia790i ultra m/b , 4 GB of ocz ddr3 ram and with 2x 9800gx2 and i have been o/clocking now for a few days, struggling to get stable past 3.3 ghz cpu. really thought this would easily get to 4ghz and stable. Any ideas, would truely help. thanks

3.3 ? It`s stock it 3. And it will do 4.2 on a great air cooler for a momentary suicide-bench test.

Have u have a look through the oc guides on the forum, there`s not really a whole lot that can be added to that, other than these day u need to remember to disable the c1e/eist cpu settings in the bios.

With 4 gb of ram you will most likely need to up the SPP voltage (NB on Nvidia). Try and overclock one thing at a time, so run your memory unlinked for the time being and keep that at stock settings but also ensure you are giving the memory enough voltage, towards the high end of the recommended vdimm. You also need a very powerfull PSU to run that setup AND overclock. When you say you can't get past 3.3, what are you using to test the overclock(what failure are you getting?), is it booting past 3.3 or simply refusing to boot or BSOD.

If all else fails then send it to me as I am one jealous puppy;).

Hi ,firstly thanks for replying this is the first time i have entered a forum, my credit card took a right canning. back to the question in hand. have had this baby at 4ghz but blue screened after start up. so been reducing it down to 3.3ghz using prime95.until stable left for 2hrs using prime95 and real temp. im currently at 1.34v vcore, ddr3 ocz at 1.75v and its unlinked. now at 3.66ghz it seemed ok while in win vista but when in gaming , my real love, it would sometimes throw me out of the game back to windows.and prime wound always say error . i will check the c1e/eist in the bios make sure ive disabled it. other wise my system has cost a great deal to my pocket and not in performance, Plaese help............ cheers:rolleyes

Which OCZ are they? If they are the platinums you need to raise the voltage on the ram to between 1.8-1.9v.

Which prime are you testing: small, large or blend?

small=cpu which is what you should be using, especially i you are testing for max temp.

Im using ocz ddr3 reaper ,prime is blend the ram actually comes with no instruction or wot voltage they range in, been told ddr3 starts at 1.5v im running them at 1.75v

I just about managed to get it to finished 3dmark06 run(s) @ 3.75/3.8, something like that. Temps for air were brushing 80 iirc, no real tweakage of the voltage. 4g+ was good for maybe SuperPI or similar. No way it`d last under Prime for me above .. say .. 3.6/3.75 ? for any great period on air.

As far as ur ram goes, u can get el-cheapo ram if u like, cos remember u can set ur cpu multiplier to whatever the heck u like (within reason) cos it`s extreme ;)

Thanks for the reply, i will keep going with the overclocking, was playing with the setting s again last nite, til late , not in the missus good book at mo, but im now at 3.953 ghz and played BF2 for four hours without a jitter, then ran prime95 and guess wot error within 5 minutes, think i will ignore prime for now just keep an eye on temps, you sure these Reapers take 1.8-1.9v dont want to fry them, cost me 200 quid. cheers again
