hi guys just joined new to pc building , just built my first and due to my age proberley my last , had a few headaces on the way but managed to get a working pc / my question is after you have reached a stable overclock do you then go on to ie play a game , at that speed. or just leave your pc set to that, or when finished revert to stock speed , never overclocked before so I will be a bit timid at it

I will usually find a comfortably high but stable overclock for general use but nothing crazy. Starting to push a bit further atm though.

Sometimes for fun I push it as far as I can in an attempt to boot and CPUZ to validate asap :D

Once you know temps are in check and you are happy with stability just go with it. You might miss a setting flipping it back and forth all the time.

As mentioned, make sure you have stability tested and all temps are good.
Once you are happy with the overclock, just leave it as it is. No need to change anything. Your PC will only ever use what it needs. So no worry that it will be pushing top speeds and temps 100% of the time. Also remember that temps shown in synthetic benchmarks are always higher than any real world application.

thanks for the info that gives me confidence now to try

80c is safe, higher than I would personally run. What cooler are you using?

That temp, is that stress test or game temp? If it's just during a stress test, you are ok. If that's the temp gaming,I would not run it that hot, but that's just me personally.

I have a corsair h110igt installed I have not yet tried any overclock yet what temps are recomended

As a guide, my temps while running OCCT are max 65c. 70c is a good ceiling for temps to ensure its keeping cool during normal usage.
