open an XVID avi or @ least try to it wont work which is senseless as MP4 is open cross compatible standard it seems apple have went ont of their way to make it hard to play other MP4 standard videos ,either becuse they are in another container or use more features than apple MP4 (as Divx and Xvid do)
I guess I've never tried those type of vids

but it does sound like the sort of thing apple would go out of their way to do.

Linux DX Games Support is Mediocre(cedega/wine) but cider/darwine is virtually nonexistant
I have had cs:source running on my OSX install using crossover. FPS wasn't brilliant but it was playable and I thought it was quite good that it worked considering steam etc.
I didn't really bother trying any other games.

Yes OS X is very easy to use and very stable but it turns a general purpose PC into a photoshop/dreamweaver/QT/FCP/Motion machine.
I agree, it does seem to be a general use type thing (browsing, emails, photo editing). I think that is the market they target.
With stuff like iLife being bundled with new macs etc
edit: I guess the main amount of revenue would be people/companies who want to run certain software like photoshop/aperture etc
I also don't think they are really fully commiting to gaming for whatever reasons atm, altho they are using gaming as a ploy to get more younger users.

Linux HW suport does support most HW .. but you may need the latest Kernel (ie from kernel.org) which most Distros dont include ... COMPILE TIME
Yer, I norm put on custom kernels after install anyway with different CFlags etc. But the install disks didn't work
Also the gentoo disk that did work was the latest and it removed my partition table for some reason
bah I miss my old stage1 install

( this thread is leading to another thread where my points bias will appear -- the shd developers support linux or OS x poll/thread and this is where Obj C and Coaco could lead to OS X only apps where X/C++ Apps will allow both but not as pretty on OS X)
I think some developers + companies will go for OS X for market share and also because mac users seem to be prepared to spend money more than linux users.
