Opinions on psu purchase.

My current system really only needs maybe 4-500 watts as it is now. I plan to add a D-5 pump and another Nvidia 980 SC graphics card in the near future. With the addition of perhaps 7-8 fans, 3 ssd's, I probably could use the TX 750 I've got now. However I was planning to upgrade to a fully modular psu. However, I just saw a EVGA Supernova 1200 for $169.00. That's about the same price as the 850 watt psu's I was looking at. I know it is crazy overkill, but damn, 1200 watts for 169.00 ?

EVGA SuperNova PSU all the way dude it's hard to pass up on it cause of that warranty.

Well since the 1200 is the same price maybe just go with the 1200 over the 850 but if you want the 850 get the 850, i know it doesn't really answer your question lol

Seasonic, Superflower, some EVGA units(made by superflower) are the best brands to get. Oh and can't forget Silverstone as well

Mr. NBD. What about this one. EVGA 1200 watts for 169.00 ? Even though it is way overkill.

Yeah its overkill and you're paying for wattage you'll never use but it's still a good power supply. Like they said, as long as you go Seasonic or Superflower, you'll be fine.

It should come with a 10 year warranty. It's got the best warranty on the market.

Honestly... I'd only go with a brand new unit, I know that some are recon, ex display or without box, they may well be 100% fine but still, I'd rather be happy and safe in the knowledge that I have a virgin PSU with a full coverage warranty.

Get the 850watt unit then since it's a new unit. Still get the 10 year warranty on it and it's still more than enough for your system.

There is a catch in order to get the "10 Year Warranty" you must register the PSU with EVGA.

It's not standard 10 Year Warranty if you don't Register the PSU i think it drops down to a 5 Year Warranty.

I don't buy PSU's based on warranty... At least since BFG went under Still have that "Lifetime Warranty" on my BFG 1000w.

How do you get that, In that case you might not as well buy a PSU that comes with a 7 Year Warranty then, I don't think EVGA is going anywhere.

I base my purchase on quality not warranty. If it is a good quality PSU I won't have to use that warranty. Antec also has a nice warranty but I wont dare put their crap in my system.

Generally speaking warranty is based off quality whenever you get a warranty that's longer than 5 years(seems to be the case from what i've seen). No company would give a 10 year warranty if they knew it would probably only last 5 years. They'd be losing money. In addition, it shows they have confidence in the quality of there product. It just shows consumers they are selling a quality product that can be pushed to its limits for 10 years. Besides it's Corsair, while I don't particularly like them all that much, i've had experience with there RMA/warranty service before and it's top notch. That should also influence that this warranty actually means something.
