Must say those are some impressive figures there.

But something tells me it will reel in more fps when more perfected drivers kick in.

I think right now 5970 is really fast, but you gotta think is that this is a new gen card not an old gen card, the card would whop gtx 295 without using crossfire.

I think the thing Im waiting to see/test myself is the overclocking these cards are meant to have hidden in them. Speaking to Pyr0 it seems they had reasons for keeping the clocks lower, but I really do think this is going to be a card to get under water asap and see how far it can go!

That is impressive, and thats without any overclocking! Looking at the crossfire fps on techpowerup its going to wipe the floor with everything else especially once the drivers are sorted. And maybe we'll start to see proper scaling up with 2 cards with this new gen of GPUs as well.

Got one on its way to me,should be here tomorrow,as my 285 FTW card could not be replaced by EVGA they refunded me my money so i only payed £122 odd for the upgrade :)

How much older is the 295? And it still wasn't that far behind on all the tests. I expected much higher results for the ATI flagship. If nvidia can release their fermi cards to beat their own 295 with ease, ATI are in trouble.

I thought that on some of the tests / reviews.

Seems that the 295 isn't lagging too far behind in some of the results.

Who knows, when Fermi is out, if you can get hold of a 295 at a decent price, it could be a lil bargain.

This page is quite interesting.

Linky.

Very simple and pretty basic but haven't seen it tested myself before. That said, I haven't looked.

That's probably a similar case to 2x280 cards topping a 295 cos of it's make-up. I'd imagine 2x5870 cards would top the 5970 cos of the way it's put together, and hence why it's not called a 5870x2.

U have to bear in mind also, the drivers used on the 5970 are pretty virginal, whilst dev for the 295 would have ended, performance-wize, the last xx4.xx driver. xx5.xx drivers usually signify new card dev or just sli profile massaging. Or in recent cases, the release of new OSes to start finding bugs for.
