Ok, I officially hate Orange!

The one thing I have leant from this experience with Orange Broadband is never go with a cheap ISP!!! Heres whats happened so far...

2nd of July - Ordered Broadband from Orange, my Mobile contact was reset that day, and I was told what I would recieve my equipment and my line would be activated in 7-10 working days. This all sounded good so off I went sorting out other stuff while Orange did their thang.

15th of July - I rang them up to see where my equipment had got to. The response I got was 'We had system problems 2 weeks ago and your order has not been processed'. :o 'You have to be joking' I said. So I had to put in another order. So 13 days wasted, but I was told that it would all sorted by the 27th of July. I was not happy :(

27th of July - I recieved my equipment and rushed to set it all up. I was happy at this point, 25 days and I would finally have internet. No more walks to uni just to check emails. I set up everything, following Orange's intructions to make sure i didnt do anything wrong and what did i get?

'Invalid ADSL Authentication'. OMG/ring Orange, 'whats going on' I said; 'errrrr BT had some problems, thats why it hasnt been done' replied Orange. 'Well this is getting ridiculous, ive waited 25 days for internet!'. So i was told that it would be sorted by the 1st of August. I asked them how long it would take Orange to get their marker off my line if I cancelled, 10 DAYS!!!! You what! *Sigh* ill wait another 5 days then.

1st of August - Well guess what, I did not get the internet. The flashing light on the Orange Livebox is really starting to

me off. Its just sitting there insulting me. I imagine it saying "You will never have the internet ha ha ha!!! Im going to flash here all day until you scream". Another phone call to Orange (Im glad these are free or i would be sending my phone bill back to them), 'Sooooo, internet?' I inquired. 'The BT problems have been fixed and the date for activation is now the 3rd of August' said Orange. I asked for some kind of compensation, all they could offer was my 1st month free. WOW £5 saving, winner. I couldn't be bothered to shout anymore. Screw it ill wait till the 3rd, its only 2 days away.

2nd of August - I recieve a phone call from Orange, YES DO I FINALLY HAVE INTERNET??? I get excited and quickly boot my PC up. He runs me through setting up my Orange Livebox. Wait ive already done this; oo well ill humor him. We get to the stage where we validate my username and password....... the status changes to 'PPP in progress...' and just like that BAM my dreams are dashed, and 'Invalid ADSL Authentication'. Grrrrrrrr :cussing: 'Let me look at your notes' says Mr. Orange, 'Ah your line hasnt been activated yet, try this again tomorrow'. So you took me through all this just to tease me without checking if i bloody had the internet first!!! You stupid ****, i thought. One more day, thats what I kept telling myself the rest of the day.

3rd - August - Well the day has arrived and tbh, I do not hold much hope. Here we are over a month later. My last ISP IDNet got me up and running in 4 working days, in contrast Orange have taken over a month to do not much it seems. I hope I will be online later @ home to tell you all how this story has ended, if I am not I will post on Monday telling you that I cancelled my Orange Broadband and I am waiting for them to get their marker off my dam line (which will proberley take them another month to do).

Hope to see you all later.

Sigh. At least its coming to an end (hopfuly). Look forward too seeing ya later with a bit of luck.

I really don`t see what`s happening to ISPs.*

Seems to be that (as long as u`r actually up and running) if u use the service to read mail and surf u`r mostly ok. Fudge knows why u`d want 20m connections, sorry UP TO - 20m (but AS LOW AS 2m *cough*), for that but hey.

If u are some1 who wants that kinda service, for u`r tubing, filetransfers or gaming, u no-longer get limited to 36g a month, or whatever, but u get an unlimited "managed" service, which effectively strips u from u`r package boasts down to a tenth orso after u hit something like a gig or gib in so many hours.

This is all b****x, scrap the 20m crap, sell it and conduct the service @ 8m or whatever it is that u can guarantee a service at. Make it 4m if u have to.

I used to really like NTL up to probably a few months b4 Virgin took over. But I can`t recommend Virgin without qualifying them.

Broadband and netting is such a widespread utility now, that I feel somebody should be regulating it a heck of alot better than it is at the moment. Be an official voice for people`s expectations and realizations - today.

As to installation QoS - well that kinda let`s u know what sort of customer service to expect in the future. Well to me it would.

*- I do see what`s happened to them. They`re more concerned with market forces and grabbing customers than providing a solid service. These meg-rates are just a customer grabber they can`t maintain.

My friends on Virgin, and hes said that his line keeps dropping for up to 3 days at a time since it changed from NTL.

and no im not online :( @ uni ordering a new PSU as mine died. They say things come in 3's im not looking forward to what will come next.

TBH at least you have a decent connection at your uni. I have to deal with a crap wireless signal becasue our phoen got shut off. No more dial up, and my friend torrents constantly on SAT net which means he hits FAP quick and im on below dial up speeds.

I am very sorry for your pain..I had to go without DSL for a while and it drove me crazy.

Where I live (edge of the desert) Charter Cable is the only connection other than dial up. I pay about $55 a month for 5 meg service.

Clearwire (wireless) just became available but many have had problems like you have mentioned with it.

Unlucky Timmy, its a shame you are having to learn the hard way but if you do cancel your contract I cant recommend UK Online enough.

Hope its all sorted soon :)

Sorry to hear about the crap your getting from Orange mate. When people call the ISP I work for (can't say who) and ask for the MAC code 3/4 of them are moving to Sky or Orange. I always end up saying "You will receive cheap service from them. Good luck" or "You get what you pay for...".

The amount of people that call back saying they want to come back is mad too!. Tbh I don't get how Orange get away with some of the crap they do. Ofcom don't seem to flutter an eyelid

OMG IM ONLINE!!!!!!

Speed Test was the 1st thing,

Ping of 68

DL of 4856kbps

UL of 245 Kbps

But I aint gamed on it yet.

at least i have a month free to see if this connection is ok.

But the Livebox doesnt work on the phone point nearest my PC. I had to figure this out myself. The Orange dude didnt even suggest it.

Glad its all sorted mate, I am still with Idnet at home and at my work residence i use BT total for ease of setup and connection time - BT was 5 days , other providers were gonna be a lot longer -upto 5 weeks in some cases.

Only drama is it costs me quite a bit, as i rarely use the Idnet connection.
