Oh dear - looks kl though - Stacker Gaming Build!! - Beware, lots of images!

Ok, first off this first part doesn't involve me putting any water in, but as it is me it does involve wasting money and things not working.

Unexpected things today:

HR-05 SLI IFX means you cannot put a gpu in first gpu slot on 680i.

Had to put gpu in 2nd slot thus blocking the triple rad thus i now gotta buy a double rad

I got thermal paste all over my trousers somehow..

to add to total list of:

2 mosfets not fit

forgot to order dtek nozzles

3 northbridge coolers not working because either 1. too small or 2. not fitting

wrong lights got sent

ordered a ton of other wrong stuff

Cant remember anything else atm.

Pics coming any sec just got 2 upload them :)

Bottom line is though my £36 Rad wont work, I gotta buy a £30 dual rad now.. anyone want a rad? :D

Ok basically this is my 2nd build, first one was half kinda built by me. On quite tight budget too although I passed that like £200 ago.

img_0198.jpg

Ok I forgot to take pics before I pulled it apart, but this is it with the new stuff installed, thats D-Tek Fuzion block, nozzle thing is ordered but may be weeks before it gets here IDK. The card is a BFG 8800GT OC2 with the FC88 GT Acetal on it. For north bridge I'm using a HR-05 IFX and for SB I'm using a HR-05 SLI IFX. Both passive unless I think temps get 2 high when I finally run it then I'll maybe attach some 80MM fans.

img_0200.jpg

I like the card :D Looks nice, very heavy though, kinda scary.

img_0202.jpg

All the stuff I got leftover, a Zalman NB sink that didn't look good enough its tiny too. My old Ultima-90, 2x HR-09 Mosfet coolers both U type 1. A HR-05 that didn't fit properly. The stock 680i LT heatsink and both the smallish fans. 3tubes of thermalright paste and a bigger tube of AC5.

img_0203.jpg

I was quite happy with how it all fit together, looked kinda cool to see it all slot easily between each other, although I had a problem, one of the mounting pins on the HR-05 SLI stopped the GPU from going in the first slot, I knew this was a problem immeditatly, so I put it in the 2nd slot, adjusted everything else etc etc

img_0205.jpg

My triple rad I planned to put in the bottom of my case, it WAS going to fit, except the thing listed above happened. Fans are 50CFM 20DBA. Everything in my case is under 20DBA :D

img_0208.jpg

Theres my stacker 830, I've built 2 rigs but I've done up a lot more and used loads this is by far the easiest case Ive ever seen to use.

img_0209.jpg

Sony DVD drive 20x write or something. Underneath there is a blue LED fan on the hard drive cage, 40CFM 18DBA or something. Lots of useful connections in the front.

img_0213.jpg

MB about to be put into the case, you can see the rad in the bottom of the case basically it was going to be pushed up to the end the mobo inserted then the rad pulled back down. I had tested it before and it all fitted fine, the HR-05 of coarse changed all that. The mobo now has the 4x 30cm blue lights attached to it.

img_0214.jpg

The mobo went in fine, looks quite cool. PSU cables are a mess im just trying to get them out of the way lol. First problem I saw was how low the GPU was...

img_0215.jpg

And there was the problem. That is me trying to get the rad in under the GPU, it just wouldn't go, not enough room, which was quite annoying. It meant the only place I could put my rad was now gone :(

So basically I retreated. I Knew id likely have to get a new rad.. a double one.

img_0216.jpg

I opted to install a blue LED fan here instead, since it would provide cooler air to the GPU, would make under the case blue, and generally looked pretty cool. It would fit since there was no huge rad there, once I get a double rad I will put it up the end next to the front of the case still on the bottom, by my latest ruler calculations it will indeed fit fine.

you can just move the rad to another location. the back or the front maybe you could get some high foot/wheels for your case and mount it the same place just take the mesh grill off. Just a thought. cooling both of those i would think you would need a 120.3 at least unless u got some beastly fans for a 120.2

Nope I cant, I've tried all, even at top of the case, at top can probably fit a 2nd dual rad I believe, but this one is just too long.

I think with some 70CFM fans it could handle the heat of my CPU and GPU. Xilence red wings will cover that.

I wanted to keep it all completly internal with this build rather than mount it outside too.

Also, all fans are 40CFM cooler master Blue LED fans they look pretty cool when lit up actually.

completely understand, i like my rad internal also. If you can try and get a thermochill its a little thicker and can take higher loads. But then again if you cant fit the 120.3 i do not know if the 120.2 thermochill will work for ya.

Its not so much the height problem they are all massive with the dual 12cm's on there, as long as it isn't 2 long that it gets under the GPU then it should be fine.

Any comments welcome also if anyone has any ideas those would be greatly appreciated :D

Well since I'm stupid and never admit defeat, I'm going to bring a saw to the screw thats stopping me doing what I want!

Maybe if I tighten it enough then cut the top off, my 8800GT will fit in the top slot, thus answering all my problems.

If it don't work, I have one less annoying screw to stab my hand on.

thats the spirit!!!! bodge it!!

if i want it in IT WILL go in

sounds just like me!!:D

good luck mate

in what way did the original HR 05 not fit properly. Doesnt it use the same attachments as the HR-05 SLI ?? If you can fit it to the s/b then all your problems are solved.

Or cant you rotate the HR-05 SLI 90 degrees so its not blocking pci-e 1 ??

Also in a stacker you can it a PA160 in the top if you wanted

Cant rotate it in-fact the actual pins that attach into it the MB are whats blocking it, the HR-05's connector isn't the right length to attach it in, its just orcuard.

I think dual rad is best, I measured and even with shaving a bit of the screw off it wont be enough.

Tried the other connectors but they don't work. The non IFX versions use different connectors. Very different infact, they are too tight for the 680i.

PA160 eh. Wouldn't be enough to cool both things unfortunately :(

I have a POSSIBLE solution.

My plan is to cut some screws down that came with the rad, and place the fans underneath teh case, since it has a slot for a dual rad on there, therefor I can 2 fans underneath and the rad ontop, need to cut screws so it will fit nicely.

Then I use the 3rd fan up the other end ontop of the case next to the input valve things.

So if I'm right, this should work fine and I keep everything :)

Ok since the nozzel kit thing wont be here for ages I've decided to add it at a later date when I buy lots more equipment more powerful fans etc..

I fitted the hose today just so I can get it all to fit in, the radiator also mounted nicely on the back however I now cannot use the back fan or the bottom 2 fans.

computer_3.jpg

The triple-rad mounted nicely on the back of the case.

computer_2.jpg

With most things fitted, has the 2 bottom fans in it as well at this point, those were removed earlier as there wasn't sufficient space for the pipes.

computer_4.jpg

Looks kl IMO :)

computer_5.jpg

After I fitted all the tubing. The RES and pump aren't actually mounted I'm going to drill some holes soon to attach them, no coolant going in yet.

computer_6.jpg

Pump will fit nicely at the front of the case. Using a few cable ties it was possible to make it not touch the GPU but after everything is mounted with screws it wont be able too anyway.

computer_7.jpg

Block isn't attached with thermal paste or anything it still has the plastic protection cover on, hasn't been booted up like this obviously :)

computer_1.jpg

Fitting the GPU pipes was quite easy it fit in well haven't attached the other 2 things needed to stop the coolant gushing out yet, will do that later.

computer_9.jpg

It isnt actually that bent if you look the bottom of the case is bent too, silly camera :@ It is slanted though but thats the silly stacker case :@

Anyway, next steps: Hole drilling and making the preparations for testing it for 24h. Need some distilled water for some reason too :)

img_0268.jpg

Everything fits a lot better now, cut some of the case away at the bottom.

img_0270.jpg

Lovely fit. Atm I'm using cable ties not pictured there to get the hose a lot closer to the case and away from the ground.

img_0271.jpg

There it is with the liquid in there. Looks pretty sweet. When UV lights are on looks cool light blueish.

img_0274.jpg

There it is, my dads hooked up to my stacker to get the pump working and all. Can see how big the stacker is compared to a standard mid tower case lol.

Leak testing atm, 2h so far, 22h to go.

Looking good, nice to see some modding going on too.

Final pics are eagerley awaited, stackers have always been a personal fav :)

Got extremely caught up with all kinds of weird problems with this, fixed now though :)

Did CPU and memory overclocking today though.

CPU is at 3450ghz, 1.44v Idle, 1.39v load, thats with the motherboard at FSB1534, nforce SPP at 1.4v and CPU FSB at 1.4. Memory is at 2.2v and working at 937mhz 4-4-4-15-23-2T. Havent got time for GPU clocking atm. As usual nvidia boards are useless with quads...

3dmark06 at 1280x720 with a tiny quick gpu overclock to 720/1730/1950 comes too a total of 15707 3dmarks. Will have too do that 1.1v bios flash and overclock the gpu too the max :) Am also planning on buying a new monitor so then it SHOULD let me run 3dmark06 at the default res.

Idle temps are 32degrees and load temps are about 48ish. So quite high but air would never do this good.

Pics 2moro as camera is on charge, one of my UV lights broke too :( so I have too order another pair of those :(

Here are some of the final results.

These 2 pics are without updated cabling while it didnt work but atleast the UV lights did.

Both off :D

And tehre it is.. so far...

Ive gotten fed up with this rubbish motherboard. Its overclocking is poor... atm im on 3ghz still beacuse nothing else will stay stable.

Heres what im going to get :)

MB-084-MS_400.jpg

MSI P35 Platinum. I will most likely purchase a tube of artic cooling mx2 with it and use that for my CPU and also use it to replace w/e MSI are using for their heatpipes. Should shave a few degrees off. Im nto going to bother with sorting out teh bad cabling until I get a new motherboard as it is just too much hassle. Also im running out of cable ties.

Aside from that, im also going to get a sound blaster x-fi xtreme gamer 7.1 sound card and a nice LG 22inch monitor. Also looking closely at the OCZ heatpipe ram 2x2gb kti to go with my 2x1gb sli ram for a new board. Both should hopefully get to 1000mhz :)

Just waiting for some money to come thru :)

Will sell the 680i lt and all my spare heatsinks most liekly on ebay, I will sell them to OC3D members if they want anything though.

HR-05 - £5

HR-05 IFX - £8

HR-05 SLI IFX - £8

2x HR-09 U's Type1 - £7 each

XFX 680i LT - good for everything except water on quads :) - £60

Ultima90i w/ akasa 92mm silent fan - £15

So, yeh, thats it for now, kinda dissapointed, but just going 2 have to be even more patient :)

----------

Anyway, wanna say thanks tot eh guys on oc3d who have given me advice on what to do/buy and also ty to wcuk for great service on the goods :)

I just want to report that I have managed to install the HR-05 IFX/SLI at the

southbridge on the XFX 680 LT mobo in a nice way, i.e. I'm not blocking neither

of the two PCIx16 slots so it's still possible to do SLI. Moreover, one PCI slot is slightly

blocked, but a no too long TV or sound card will still fit. Please see the attached picture.

Basically, I had do nothing extra except choosing a "non-standard" angle.

I did however add extra metal washers on the backside of the mobo, since the

rubber ones included got squeezed over the screw head when tightening (reasonably hard).

Anyway, considering that one have to replace the chipset fans (if one are not a fan of loud fans... :) ), I'm not sure the XFX 680 LT is such a price-worthy alternative any longer, after all, the HR-05 coolers are not for free....

Thanks for the info.

I have upgraded to the P35 though, instillation was MUCH easier all the stuff on the mainboard is placed in much more sensible places, much easier to wire.

TBH the heatsinks on 680i didn't help much anyway, they helped me get to 3.6ghz unstable lol, aside from that took up quite a bit of space.

Atm I cant finish anyway as it would appear my Q6600 got lost in the post so gotta wait until monday to find out.

Assuming its lost, I'm planning on buying one of the new 45nm Penryns when they come out, Q9450.

Assuming its fine, I plan on buying a Silencer 750W Power Supply and a cheap 2x2gb kit of ram, DDR2-800.

So who knows, one day I might actually be satisfied with this.. and something may actually go right for a change. But either way it wont be done for quite a while.. will post some pics of it without CPU as its almost done how it is.

Hi Hatman,

yes, I noticed that you changed to another mobo, looks like a nice choice.

The reason I posted it here anyway, was that this was the only(!) place I found

when googling for the 680i and HR-05 on the southbridge; guess that there are some

other guys sitting with the same problem as we have had, or what do you think? :) Btw, did you find any other stuff on the net on this particular setup?

Anyway, in what sense were you unhappy with the cooling with the HR-05:s?

Was it worse than with the original loud fans, or was it just not enough when overclocking?

I believe I got better temperature after switching to the coolers, but I don't trust the temp measures

in linux 100%.

Hope your Q6600 has turned up-mine is sitting nicely in its socket... :)
