OCZ - Overclockers Rant!

Hi All,

Just thought I would write a quick topic over my experiences with anything OCZ that I have currently in my rig!. I understand that this is a review site and if this topic gets deleted I understand, but I wanted to give an honest opinion so here its is.

About 2 years ago i needed a new computer but did not have a lot of money, so i built an averiagely decent computer with most of the specs in my signature. The parts included a OCZ power supply and OCZ memory.

Well this is where my major gripe against OCZ comes in, after just over a year the PSU died, I tried to replace by warranty but never got an answer from any1 at overclockers.co.uk reference the length of the warranty. I bought a new PSU and moved on!

The work that I do then required me to need more than the 4gb of OCZ RAM I had put in my rig, so i decided to purchase 4 gb of identical RAM to give me 8gb. The only company that stocked this was Overclockers again. So i ordered the RAM from put it in my puter and everything went pear shaped!...loadsa blue screens and crashes. Anyways to cut a long story short i took out the RAM and everything is stable again.

I have again e-mailed Overclockers as this RAM is only 2 months old, but guess wot, no reply...after another week.

I have now decided to never ever by anything OCZ and I will never purchase again via Overclockers.co.uk...

hope this post saves some one some time and money!

First mistake was buying OCZ RAM, they have the highest failure rates of all RAM. As for their the PSUs I haven't heard much about them but the little I have heard has been bad.

The second mistake was buying from Overclockers, they are really overpriced on most things and they are very deceitful and have shitty customer service. When the SB CPUs were released Overclockers were charging £198 for a i5 2500K and because Aria were selling them at the proper retail price of £175 Oveverclocks told a bunch of lies and said that if people buy from Aria they wouldn't get any warranty and a few other things. I can't remember the full story but there is a thread with all the details in it on here somewhere. Any company that will go out of their way and tell lies about another just so they can charge more money on something a rip people off in my opinion is a company to stay away from.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Aweful crap they sell, never buying from them again - thankfuly this Fatal1ty psu came with a five year warranty - they'll just have to keep paying out or replacements

Their psus, you could say are worse. They work but not under rated wattage most of the time. My first one went back

OCZ RAM is awful, I had a pair of OCZ Gold sticks for a previous PC and they caused BSOD's constantly and froze my PC all together at times. I posted on the OCZ forums and emailed them several directly about the problem with no response to a single post or email.

Ive used several OCZ PSUs which have all been rock solid though so I imagine they are abit marmite with products like XFX...

Well that seems to have turned shitty , a few years back OCZ were producing some of the best memory sticks on the market and there PSU's were top notch how ever things seem to have taken a dip for the worse.

If you go direct to OCZ they used to replace stuff with out a problem over at there forums. you might what to try there insted.

Customer service at overclockers.co.uk Is utterly rubbish recently started having problems with my Thermalright silver arrow they're reply was go talk to thermalright if they don't say anything within 2 weeks we might do something about it. Poor show, hope never to shop with them again have contacted thermalright today so we'll see how that goes lol(they were quick enough when i asked about buying it)

I also bought some OCZ ram via Overclockers 1 stick was faulty, contacted OCZ direct, they were very good and replaced the ram after i sent it back to them (factory in the netherlands i think) for testing. all within a week. didn't even bother with overclockers as they stated on their website it's best to go direct to manufacturer with faults.

I also have an OCZ SSD (Vertex 2) and tbh I have had no problems with it. It has been running now for about 5 months and I have had no degradation in performance. But I would still not buy anything else from OCZ due to the more bad experiences I have had than good. I am not saying all OCZ products are bad I am just stating my experiences.

As for Overclockers.co.uk, I have been trying to get info off them reference the account the parts were ordered via but the e-mail address that I used no longer exists. I have asked them for help and they have told me to e-mail the webmaster, which I have done numerous times. The problem is the webmaster apparently does not bother with e-mail so I have had no replies....tbh its there loss as I am about to spend about £1000 on a new build and Overclockers will not see a penny of it!

Aria or SCAN all the way now, but companys need to realise that in this day and age the thing that sets them apart from each other isn't the product, its the support they give when things go wrong!!

Its a bit of a dig up however i bought an OCZ Vertex 3 to finish my new build last week and it died after a day, i got a credit for warranty as the test confirmed it was dead, and i got an intel. Been great since.

Oooh, I have heard mixed things about some models of SSDs from OCZ though, and a common issue is read/write speed noticeably degrades as the drive fills up, though I suppose with firmware updates this can be stopped.

Also, taking from your guys experiences, I'm quite lucky I had no RMAs for Overclockers
