The Oculus app will automatically block apps that are not sold through the Oculus Storefront unless you specifically "allow unknown sources" in the options menu.

Meh... everybody wanting a piece of the cake... same as Uplay, Origin and Microsoft and their store. I'm getting fed up with it... >_>

This looks to be more of a "well if you allow this unknown source and something ***** up then it's on you not on us" type scenario.

A non issue really.

Yep, I only see this as a plus really. The only way it would have been bad is if they did the blocking, but allowed no legitimate way of getting around it.

Indeedy, It's just covering their butts incase something goes wrong, Can't blame them really, At least they give an option to allow unauthorized applications :)

Not sure if this is even possible, but perhaps some not so ethical hacker could make an app that ends up blinding people or induces epileptic fits. Subliminal messages :).

You better get on and patent that idea! Will be the next thing in youtube instead of annoying ads every video there will be microsecond subliminal flashes of products you should buy.

Back on subject tho this is no different to any platform - I think the VR systems are looking at being more of an integrated system (tracking/interface & A/V output ) than simply a 'display' It's more of a keyboard/mouse/headtracker/display bundle.
Plus it's a way to quality control the experience. It's a premium price you'd expect that.
