OC'ing QX9650

The QX should be good for 4.2 stable on air. I can get 4.8 bench stable on SS.

Around 1.45max for CPU voltage. 72c load max.

Have you upped the PLL or chipset voltages?

Hi im just wondering if any of your super clockers out there have been messing about with QX9650 as im looking to oc it a bit and im not wanting to use the MB utilities to do this anymore, ie in the bios. Im wanting to do a proper oc on it but after just spending £480 on the chip i dont want to have a bash myself and end up frying it.... LOL.

Im hoping to get my benches up a bit from what they are so i can maybe get in the higher reaches of the benchers paradise table :yumyum: for HS&F users that is as i havent got liquid (but i am looking at maybe a phase). if anyone can give me advice on that as to the pros and cons of that sort of system.

Thanks all for your infinite knowledge and bountiful advice in advance. :wavey: :worship:

What hs&f you got??

on 4GHz given even top end air cooling.... If ya fry it which isn't likely then just remember those 3 lovely letter R.M.A. :)

Check out all the threads in the overclocking section though... They will make life much easier for ya.

Also check this out!

i got a asus triton 79 amazing, just cost me 60 quid with postage plus i bin trying to find mentions of my chip else where in the oc'ing section and am having trouble doing so

I think it's the same in principle as any other quad.. So following any other quad guides should work fine. Only difference you have is the unlocked Multi. Google is your friend here also :)

4ghz for a bench for sure on air. 4.2+ghz for suicidals (not much + tbh, 0.0x).

3.75ghz with good ambient temps for general use. In recent hot temps tho I`ve had to 3.33 or 3.5 for 24/7 fold.

Just had a check and these can be had for £400... Nowhere near what I thought... I thought they were still about like £600+.

bought it oem ie no stuff wid it and managed to get for £480 including postage and this is the new c1 revision of the chip :)

and can someone tell me how i make sig with all me stats in it please as i never bothered but now i got good kit im wanting to... :)

U got some good linkage ? Scan are still squawking at 640 ish, and NewEgg are $1k+

Na man... I was just checking out fleebay shops. There is a buy it now for £380 plus £20 postage and another from Ireland at somewhere around that price. Are brand new chips though apparently.

I just typed mine out in my User CP. Just copy mine and delete what ya don't want and alter it in any way ya like. Easiest way.

the ones from ireland arent new they have been used or tested(yeah rightyo then) i bought from a guy down south and hes the only one with the c1 revision.

cheers for the sig info

Not a bad first effort... You could drop the multi to 10 and up the FSB and see what you get as well as upping the voltage slightly.

We were overclocking one of these to 4Ghz recently. We struggled to get it stable at first (400 x10) until we realised it was one of the worst Extreme chips we had seen in a long time - needed alot of voltage! We changed it for another in the end to keep the temps down (even on a w/c system).

Hopefully you have a good chip, do you know what your chips VID is (its native automatic voltage)?

You should easily be able to take it to 4Ghz, I have that same chip but not done any over clocking yet but I was able to take the E6850 to 4Ghz on air with just simple FSB increases no changes to voltages what so ever. This was using the Asus Striker Extreme mobo and a QDR of 1775.

My current rig Im using the Striker II but until I fix some tearing issues with my 8800GTX cards I wont be looking at overclocking. Before the tearing I had it stable at about 3.6ghz again just fsb increments I plan on taking it to 4.5 + once my machine is stable (im on water cooling btw)

Well ive got it 3.5GHZ now and cpu-z says 1.232v. Does that help??? and is that good???
