OC'ing Questions

Hi, I've been overclocking my P4 3.2GHz, and the max voltage according to intel should be at 1.388v. Only problem is that whatever I set it as in my BIOS, almost all the programs i've tried are saying the voltage is lower than I set it. So i set it higher in BIOS to get it at 1.388 in speedfan and cpu-z, but PC Probe II is telling me its at like 1.46 instead of 1.38. I'm afraid I might ruin the processor, so does anyone know which of these programs are telling me the right voltage? thanks.

Software voltage readings are never very accurate.

But an extra 0.1v is not going to ruin your cpu in any way.

Ah ok that's a relief, I don't know why but I thought 0.1v could ruin it, guess I was wrong. What program would you recommend me using tho? I want to get whatever's the most accurate so I can crank as much out of my cpu without worrying about the readings being wrong.

One of the other things of coarse is that usually despite what you SET in the bios it comes out a bit lower.

For instance I could set 1.35v yet it would only use 1.3v as reported by BIOS and any monitering tools.

Yeah, isn't that like vDroop or something like that? I think my mobo does that, but the only problem is that I'll set BIOS voltage to 1.5v, but PC Probe II says it's 1.46v, and then Speedfan, CPU-Z, and HWMonitor all say 1.38v. So I'm very confused as to what one to trust...considering the PC Probe II reading you'd think is more accurate since it came with my mobo (ASUS Striker II Formula), but then I got 3 other programs saying otherwise. Very confusing...
