OC3D Preview Asus Crosshair IV Extreme

I was waiting out for one of these but impatience got the better of me so I went with the Crosshair iv instead. Based on the research I've done, the main difference between the two should be the RC Bluetooth and the Lucid chip included in the Extreme. But then again I could be wrong. Only time/tinytomlogan will tell...............

I thought Fuzion was coming first. Basically a Phenom with some GPU love onboard? Akin to the I3 etc.

Ah well, all shall be revealed soon no doubt

Hmm. They must have changed that then. I read on their site ages ago that they were doing something called Fuzion. Oddly though they seem to have used the name for their lock down software (and the logo). It's some mad app that kills every non critical process before you start a game. AV, wireless LAN, firewalls.. Anything that runs in the background and uses resources. It even disables Aero and all that... One click off, one click all back on. Wicked it is

Is the new processor going to be compatible with AM3 boards? My crosshair IV is dying to have something a bit better than the X3 in it.

I could be going mad (quite likely) but it's my understanding that there are two architectures inbound; Fusion and Bulldozer

Fusion refers to the processors with fully integrated GPU and the new APU unit that makes it all happen - this includes Llano core (for desktops, almost an Athlon II with iGPU), Bobcat and Zacate (Single and Dual Core Atom competitors).

Bulldozer involves a different architecture without iGPU and will be the basis of 4/8 core desktops (known thus far as Zambezi core) and 16 core servers.

Have to see whether that's backward compatible, either way I look forward to AMD being more competative at the top end, this intel monopoly isn't great.
