OC3D Press Release: ATI/AMD Merger News

The integrated CPU/GPU seems a bit interesting, but I just don't know if it will be something that really takes off, or works up to current hype and expectation. Only time will tell, but I hope AMD jumps back in the game soon because they're taking a friggin' beating.

We're going to be doing an article about this, but basically AMD are going to re-write the x86 instruction set just as they did with x64. It seems like CPU/GPU's are the way to go to be honest and hopefully AMD will be innovating on the forefront once again.

If you could harness the floating point power of a graphics card and have huge bandwidth directly to memory this could really push performance to the next level. Also it may mean that upgrades could simply be done by changing one chip and you would have a much more up to date system.

Correct - physics is one easy example of where the GPU on-die could massivly benefit gaming. running physics on a GPU is very very much faster on the GPU as they are so massivly parrallel
