Nvidia's GTX 1080 Ti will reportedly launch at PAX East

Well, we know that it is coming. They like the secrecy. The less we know, the more we talk abut it. It sounds like a paradox, but it is so true. :)

Bit OT but just out of curiosity when is Volta coming? I mean 11xx series cards.

Back on topic, i literally cannot decide what to do atm, dont want to buy a 1080 now and wait for this Ti but i kind of want a card. Was absolutely disappointed when they didnt announce at CES :(

Always get a kick out of the postponed launches to sell their lower tier products.

"Hey guys, why get what you really want when you could buy this first and then buy another card shortly after?!"

And if Vega isn't out by PAX, then it will be just a rumour and people will have to wait, Nvidia aren't going to release something then AMD beat it

Unless by March they know they can match Titan XP for $700-800. It would be amazing if Vega 10 could match a Titan XP for $700.

They don't really have to match it, just be above the 1080 enough that it would be hard for Nvidia to bring out a TI that wouldn't be so close to the Titan XP it wouldn't be worth it

No, I mean Nvidia. If Nvidia can match a Titan XP with the 1080ti for $700-800 then they can just release it as Vega 10 won't beat Titan XP. The same thing will happen as 980ti/Fury X.

Unless vega beats a 1080 by a significant margin there's no reason for Nvidia to release a TI they could just lower the price of the Titan xp

After waiting until CES and nothing, I went and ordered my 1080 as I was tired of waiting. Ill upgrade when it comes though.

Even if Vega only slightly surpasses a 1080, I still think there will be a valid reason to release the 1080ti and I think Nvidia will do it. While they may lower the Titan XP in price (I doubt it, though), a 1080ti will be released no matter what as it will sell so incredibly well. Yes, it will take away from the sales of the 1080 and Titan XP, but Nvidia have already made a minting from those. The hype surrounding them is somewhat waning, especially with Vega on the horizon. To keep the ball rolling they should just release a new GPU. People will lap it up if the price is right. I can't see many lapping it up if it's $800 and smack in the middle of the 1080 and Titan XP in terms of performance, but if performance is close to the Titan XP at a price of $750 ('snob' edition) and $700 for non-reference designs, that will sell like hotcakes.

It's going to happen. That's a given tbh.
Its not like they can use it for HPC and stuff, they already got that market covered. It'll release because it's profit margin is going to be insane and they are going to milk it like crazy.

I thought VEGA was currently 10% better than 1080 ? and that's without the refinements and drive changes yet to come

Considering the 1080 Ti will be inbetween the Titan XP and 1080 making it around 10% faster than a 1080 I'm definitely going to wait until Volta, I can't justify to myself spending in excess of £700 for a 10% perf boost.

That is in Star Wars and Doom (using Vulkan). TBH I would be more inclined to believe the initial rumours that it is no faster than a 1070.

I hate to say it, but I am probably right. It is going to be crap and they have once again wasted loads of money on HBM2 thinking it will make all of the difference. It won't.

HBM is a great technology but not for gaming GPUs not now. Maybe in five years time?

How many times have we heard that :p:p=00=.

maybe we should all place bets peeps ;)

People spend nearly that amount for less of a gain, for a new CPU and motherboard every time Intel releases new CPUs on a brand new 1 pin different socket.
