No, no no.

They were all based on the G92 core, the 8800gt - 9800gt - gts 140 (or 220? not sure now, OEM only anyway)

The 8800gtx - 9800gtx - gts 250.

They weren't just rebrands, they upped the clocks and make some other tweaks too

the 9800gtx and the gt250 is the same card but with a new bios, look around the web its the same card. thats why nvidia is being sued for missleading customers to think it is a new product when it is not
