NVIDIA working on Single-PCB GeForce GTX 295

lol I've seen a number of reports about this. 1 claiming that the pcb reduction will lessen the costs and another claiming the reduction in the cooler required will reduce the manufacturing costs.

IF this card ever gets produced as a 295, I'd not hold my breath on any price differences between the dual and single. More likely this reference board would be used for a 3xx series release sometime in the future.

1 claim is that this card is in production April for release in May ? From an 'nVidia source'. C'mon.
 
nVidia always looking for ways to reduce costs. There gtx range atm have so many more transistors in the core than the Ati competition, matching Ati's prices would eat into nVidias profits considerably.

Putting 2 core on one pcb is the smarter choice. A big chunk of manufacturing costs will be cut off the gtx295.

If this card does come out, I bet shortly after Ati will definatly bring out a HD4890X2 which should whoop a gtx295's ass.:awhip:

edit: This marks the end of dual pcb gfx cards! The R&D spent on this will, be an intestment for nVidia and the following gtx3xx series Will probably use this pcb design for the high end cards as well.

I wouldn't go that far the GTX295 is a great hard in itself and well a hard act to beat...

Maybe. But the hd4870 1gb isn't that far behind the gtx260 216. And as the hd4890 will be 13% faster clock for clock than the 4870. And its clocked at 850mhz core. So two 4890 cores should be better than the gtx295 if ati get the drivers right.

Gibbo at novatech done some testing and it showed a 30% increase over a 4870 512mb, not sure of the difference between the 4870 512mb and 1GB but i think 13% is an understatement

13% increase over 4870 1gb clock for clock

750 > 850mhz 13% increase in clock speed aswell

therefore

13 + 13 = 26% increase in performance. There is also a bump in the memory speed.
 
well that still doesnt mean that two of them would beat a GTX295 unfortuantly not everything works out like the math... all im saying is i wont make a judgement till i see benchies...
