Well first off thanks big to Austin for showing me this.

Secondly it IS the inquirer, and their "sources" aren't always great!

Nvidia seems to be saving an Ultra model for when ATi launch the R520. I think I'll quote the lot as its actualy nicely done:

ATI attacks – strike one

ATI made its first move launching Crossfire motherboards suppriting two X850 cards something that stole always Nvidia's performance crown that it acquired with a huge help of cooling and SLI. That was move number one. ATI is still not ready with these cards, drivers or boards but it might be ready in two or three weeks time.

Nvidia responds – strikes back

In the meantime Nvidia, is about to release its Geforce 7800 GTX card. This is Nvidia counter move to strike on Crossfire and two X850XT PE cards even before they resurface. Nvidia will have two 7800GTX who will end up faster than two X850XT PE no question about it. That's happening right now and from next week on you will see the benchmarks and will be able to buy two of those cards.

ATI is about to play – strike three The red company will soon attack the Geforce 7800GTX. It will attack it with its R520 chip based on 90 nanometre and supposed to be clocked very high. ATI might win over G70, Geforce 7800GXT but that's exactly why Nvidia didn't used its well know Ultra synonym for those cards. There will be something faster coming we heard.

Nvidia responds – strike four

The green company will react with G70 Ultra a faster variation of Geforce 7800 proct preety much just clocked faster. We don't know how much faster but if all works well just fast enough to beat R520.

ATI goes for faster R520 clocks – strike five

If Nvidia turns out to be faster with Geforce 7800 Ultra than original R520 ATI will get some faster chips and will jeopardise its yields but will release faster card that might win some benchmarks but might be hard to get.

That's according to their sources. It may be true...but it may not.

Whatever it seems like the ATI/Nvidia cat and Mouse will go on forever :)

Article @ The Inquirer

Ive been been browsing the pr part of nvidia online and it appears to be true..they dont go as far as to say that there just releasing a new chip to force ati into second place, but 7800 ultra, or whatever its final name will be claims to be the most advanced gpu in the world, even though its still in testing. seeing as the cards set to come out when ati bring out their next gen chips, we can only assume that nvidia mean that there new gpu will be better than ati's. oh well, we'll have to wait and see

it will blast ATI outa the sky wil that thing that is if it aint just a myth

Until ATI adapt the new Xbox Chip r500 onto the desktop and then tune it up to speed....mmm....universal pixel/shader pipelines :)

stil Nvidia are usually better not always, but usually, and they usually are value for money altho my 9800pro is more value for money... they are usually value for money

They both tend to end up pretty much balanced on a knife edge with one scoring higher in some bench/game and the other in another bench/game.

ATI have a slight edge, but only if their production steps up a bit :)

If the new Nvidia Ultra card thing is true, hopefully it won't require a cooling solution like the leaf blower on the FX5800.

hehe yeah even if that would be funny :D

I like the nice cooler the 68 U has ATM. Its big and black and big...

Errr yeah :D

Hehe even if they did a deal like HIS do with the ATI silencers, I wouldn't mind at all. It was the screaming fan in the 5800 that was unbearable.

If yall just went to watercooling u wouldn't have to worry about the leafblower fan on the card...

Just the leafblower fans on ur radiator ;) lol

is there going to be a 7600??? like the 6600

No details of that yet, but I think they're going for 7800NU, 7800GT, 7800GTX (only the GTX upwards will have SLi) and 7800Ultra (not confirmed yet ;) )
