Nvidia to release 512mb version of the 7800GTX

Well after being pwned in some of the games that really use the extra 256mb buffer: nvidia have decided to chuck another 256mb onto their GTX cards and compete with ATI.

It was always gonna happen, and The Inquirer are first with the news.

Also in the pipelines (get it ;)) is a slightly higher memory clock, but its not believed that the core clock will increase.

Looks like they made a bit of cash on the GTX and will aim this at around the same pricepoint as the x1800 - maybe even lower to really put some green pressure on the red tide :)

nVidia shouldnt lower the prices of the 7800GTX to compare with the X1800. You get what you pay for. You want the best performing card on the market you spend for a 7800GTX, you want a decent card that gets pwned by the 7800GTX you get an X1800 for a bit less :)

But I wouldn't complain if they dropped the prices on the GTX's :) Might give me an excuse to buy a pair ;)

single 512mb cards are going to start becoming more popular now, even tho they have been out for quiet along time already

I suppose the last quarter of next year we'll start seeing 1gb cards. Mefinks this is going to turn in to a ridiculous memory race. Hell we don't even need 512 as it is, ugh. I guess the larger numbers give u bigger cajones to attract the uber n00bs.

Incorrect. See review from Hexus here

The 7800GTX does not beat the x1800: but does compete with it on games that do not need the extra memory buffer.

Hexus are a website that I know and trust to give out a good solid and reliable review :)

Looks to me like the 7800 outperforms the X1800 in more games tested than vice-versa. I'll be sticking with nvidia again this round it looks like, as it outperforms the ATi in Source which we all know is the fame to judge by since we all play it religiously ;)

If ATI were SLI compliant then i'd consider them, but as i've just got myself a nice SLI board ATI can fuxxor off ;)
