Nvidia Supports Steam In-Home Streaming on Latest GeForce GPUs

Valve officially released support for hardware encoding on NVIDIA GeForce GPUs in the Steam client.

Works for me, I streamed asseto corsa from my main rig to a dell laptop from 2004 yesturday.

edit: I dont think i was using the encoder, i have fermi 570 which i dont think has the chip for H.264 encoder

I hope AMD gets support soon too, which a few articles indicate they presumably will.

From my understanding, this will be exclusive to nvidia only, as nvidia has the physical H.264 encoder chip on the pcb. Unless AMD start to do the same, a software encoding is the most they can do

Edit: from what i remember, one of msi's X99 will have an h.264 encoder on board

yes, there are multiple sources pointing to there being a hardware encoder onboard the msi x99. I imagine there is an advantage to having the chip on the gc pcb vs the mobo?
