Nvidia plans to host a "Geforce Special Event" on September 1st

My heart sinks whenever i find out he's hosting an event like this, he just waffles on and on, telling the world repeatedly how great Nvidia is.

Basically talking too much without actually saying anything:(

The Turing launch event was utter tedium.

I enjoy the detail, but I agree that it can get tedious.

It's the American way. Spend 20 minutes saying what could have been said in ten seconds.

Get used to it.

I think the British invented it though. The art of Waffle talk. Only need to look at some of the walls of text we see on this forum which can be shorted by about 40 lines in most cases. :D

Like it or not Nvidia actually is that great and big. They are dominating the world ATM.

And about talking too much... Have you seen any Tom's video? :)

So why do you bother watching?

You could just checkout any tech site an hour after the event for all the edited highlights.

This.

The reveals are also sales pitches too. Of course he's gonna wax lyrical about Nvidia's latest and greatest tech.

I just enjoy the show to be honest, then sit forward when we get to the nitty gritty of specs and price.

The difference is Tom comes out with useful stuff to inform the buyer, Jensen Wang is a salesman first and foremost and his main goal is to sell, You'll notice he repeats key phrases 3-4 times back to back while strutting around on stage like a miniature peacock.

"the more you buy the more you save the more you buy the more you save the more you buy the more you save the more you buy the more you save"

Everything Wang says could be said in a 20 minute presentation if his ego and fluff pieces were taken out.

If a car sales man just rolls off specs of a vehicle and then expects a customer to sign on the line, hes not going to sell anything. Fluff talk is what hooks the buyer in. I get what you're saying but Wang is the master of maximising hype and interest, and what he does, works. Even if some of it is borderline criminal.

What has he said/done that is borderline criminal? Genuinely asking.

Hid sales of GPUs sold to dataminers/ cryptominers, as consumer gamer sales which got investors to pump more money into his company.

Basically falsified sales of his cards to gamers.

Has that been proven? Surely he'd be out of a job if so?

It's definitely true that NVidia didn't separate their gaming-derived crypto card sales into a new sales category yeah. It was definitely misleading, intentionally or not, but legally they're on safe ground as their defence that they had know way of being able to determine the intention of the AIBs (As to whether AIBs would use them for gaming or mining focussed cards) when they sold the chips is likely to be upheld on this more recent lawsuit. There's be no proof of anyone intentionally misleading in any of these cases so far, just flawed sales practices that didn't adapt fast enough to the market.

If you pay off the right people you can get away with a lot and it happens in every industry and the GPU industry is no different, People, Not you, Are being wilfully naive if they think otherwise.

I think most people know they would have done it intentionally if they could have anyway, but innocent until proven guilty and all that, case has been seen in court before but there's always appeals processes left to play out.
