Nvidia has officially teased the new GTX 1080 / 1070 cooler design on the GeForce website. A new wallpaper has appeared on the aforementioned site, which bears a striking resemblance to the leaked photos of the GPU shroud which have been popping up in the last couple of weeks.

IMO they should have stayed with the current cooler as it looks quite classy and maybe just made it a bit fatter to accommodate a larger fan and heatsink.

This thing looks bleedin horrible.

I couldnt agree more. It also seems that there is less room internally for a heatsink which would decrease cooling performance.

This new cooler looks ugly IMO like others have said they should have stuck with the current one, TBH tho i still think they will sell tho either way.

Those vents are afterburners. After these friggin cards burn

I guess they thought they could comprimise on cooling performance to get the "new look" that kids are going to love.

Whether or not they changed the aesthetics of the reference cards they were always going to be received in one of two ways, the original fans (which I'm one) and the futurists that want something new. I do feel though it is time for Nvidia to move with the times and sharpen up their image which to be fair they have done with the new styling and if you look at every other 3rd party card that has been released over the last few years they are all angular and futuristic looking.

If you take a 980Ti Reference, throw a Strix next to it and squint you'd probably see something similar to what Nvidia have decided to go with, it's staying true to the original but with a fresher sharper style. As for these cards running hot, no one knows yet and I very much doubt they will simply because of the advancements they have made and lower power consumption.

Indeed, the new cooler looks bad. In the end though, it doesn't matter to me, I always get a graphics card from another vendor like ASUS, MSi etc.

Well this is the reference design, which I believe all reference designs will most likely look like... Despite which vendor. Unless you go for an aftermarket cooler/solution ^_^
