Nvidia Maxwell

Where I feel AMD needs to focus heavily on now is the cloud streaming, because that's where it's all heading it'll not be many years before we wont need gaming cards and yet again Nvidia has the edge with GRID.

Cloud gaming is a long way away. The majority of the world's internet isn't strong enough to support cloud gaming, hence why those who've tried have failed thus far.

Well to be fair I was on a 56k modem not so many years ago, things have moved on a lot faster in tech, plus it makes sense once the network is in place and it's getting there, look at Asia speeds, Google in the US and in the UK BT fiber, things are moving forward and this is why AMD needs to be prepared and the sooner the better cause they are behind. I have 80down 20up and most people have at least half that speed now days, so it's not as far off as your thinking even Sony is moving ahead with PS Now it's really not so far away.

You may have 80up 20down but many, many people don't. Also I believe sony bought up the company that tried (and failed) to do the whole cloud gaming thing so they could create PS Now. Many areas aren't getting fiber as the infrastructure needs to be replaced and it isn't cost effective for the companies to do so. I, for example, can't get fiber as Virgin Media deem the ancient, over burdened infrastructure here as "sufficient". America ( a much larger market than here) also doesn't have fantastic internet in many areas.
I should probably add that although AMD don't hold the "fastest card" title, they are equal with Nvidia in many areas (such as the 770/280x or the 290/780). Nvidia have always (well recently) made the fastest single GPU 'card but it doesn't mean that AMD are far behind.

Cloud gaming will never be lag free for 1080p or higher, no matter how fast you internet is.

The problem is with sending and receiving of the data and the time it takes to process it. Although than time is can be as little as 200ms that is still enough where you will experience lag.

The average humans reaction time is also ~200ms. So imagine you are playing a FPS game and your reaction to seeing an enemy and and shooting him is ~320ms.
Now add on another 200ms for the data to be sent from your PC, to a server and back again that's ~520ms from the time you perform the action on your PC to it actually happening on your screen.

Now if that is against a player who isn't using cloud gaming, he has a 200ms lead on you, so by the time the data has been sent back to your PC from the server he has already shot and killed you and because of that delay even if you get the drop on him he will always still kill you first because he has that 200ms advantage.

For slower paced games like Batman and Assassin's Creed it's not that much big of a deal but for anything fast paced it is a big deal.

BT Fiber is being laid throughout the whole country atm they just do fiber to the local green boxes and then it go's copper into the home, you have translator box before it go's into the router. It's cutting down on costs and quicker for them to implement the tech is getting to a stage where 300MB will be very possible soon.

My point with the whole streaming thing is AMD need to be ready even my TV is going to be able to use PS Now, I get that not everyone has fiber or a higher speed the point is many do and there is a large move forwards into that area.

It's not a long ways off even a few years isn't long in the grand scheme of things, tech seems to move along faster and faster now days.

As for maxwell only time will tell but it'll be a good leap forwards but Idk for how much longer it will be required unless your doing some kind of video production or Open CL cuda based tasks, in the long term GPU's will not be needed for gaming and consoles will be basic streaming boxes, digital is the future whether we like it or not.

At CES they had GRID and PS Now being used and peoples reactions to it were far better than in the past. Things are moving forward quickly and the delays and such will be iron'd out to the point where it'll not matter. I personally find the only thing that matters is your ping to the server, even games like BF4 have huge issues with current position on the map, where you ping where you are when playing, if the hit speed is too low it doesn't matter what your connection speed is your get killed and it'll seem like it came out of nowhere and take you by surprise. So even modern games that are not via the cloud have network related issues so while your correct that lag wont help a game in the same instance server side lack of pings to the server has the exact same effect.

in 30 years time maybe. As Sieb said, Latency will be a massive issue for the foreseeable future. Cost wise cloud gaming isn't cheap to host either.

-edit- They're not even going to do fiber to the green boxes in my area. Or most of Cambridge, the internet is terribad here,

Well they are saying they are going to cover the whole UK in time I think they have just hit the area's that are more densely populated, it'll make it's way to you soon I hope, cause it is so much better than being on 8MB or lower everything is just nice and snappy almost like reading it straight off the harddrive when loading a video let alone the 20min installs for large games instead of 8h30m of the past.

I live in a very populated bit. Its just old houses don't make them that much money.

Also, that still won't sort the response time.

At fucking last, Big Maxwell is finally being announced!! Can't wait to hear what they reveal tomorrow. Also there's a lot of speculation the GTX 790 will be reveal tomorrow.

It looks like we are going to hear a lot about Maxwell during Jen-Hsun’s keynote at GTC 2014.
Someone has just posted a short overview of the upcoming keynote, which would include a huge news to many GPU enthusiasts.
GeForce 800 series — 20nm Maxwell.
Jen-Hsun is going to preview 20nm high-end Maxwell GPU architecture. This is the first time we are going to officially hear about 20nm GPUs from NVIDIA. It also seems that second generation Maxwell is going to be used in GeForce 800 series. This is most likely just an overview of the architecture, something like the first showcase of GK110. We do not expect to see any actual samples.
DirectX 12, OpenGL and new driver
NVIDIA CEO is also going to talk more about the new DirectX and OpenGL APIs. Because the presentation is going to take around 2 hours, we expect many real-time demos, videos and people explaining those APIs in detail. New DX12 and OpenGL are a direct response to AMD’s Mantle. The new driver is supposedly going to introduce a huge difference in performance.
GeForce GTX 790 tomorrow?
Since it’s Jen-Hsun Huang, who is going to make the presentation, we are more than sure that he is going to show some new tech. Long story short, there is a good chance we are going to see GeForce GTX 790 tomorrow. Be advised, this is just my speculation.

When this page show Maxwell architecture and number of chip and later when NVIDIA give us same chip for gaming than I will read more about Maxwell, example Tesla K40 G110-B hold chip and number of cores interesting for me...And that's GTX780Ti... For Maxwell maybe that will be GM110 full unlocked or I don't know...
