Nvidia has granted $200,000 to the University of Toronto to help them use GPUs to learn and identify cancer causing genetic mutations.

It was nice wasn't it. Considering they didn't have to give anyone anything. Yes, will no doubt be deductible, would it have been different if it was another manufacturer?

Of course it wouldn't be different because I'm not a deluded fanboy.

TBH they would have been better off giving nothing, instead of bragging about billions of pound's worth of profits and then saying "And here's $200k for cancer !".

IMO it's just a way to make people go "Awww, aren't they caring !".

I'm pretty sure that if they didn't give a sh** about cancer research, they wouldn't donate $200,000.

I appreciate that they did this, regardless of intentions, cause it means researchers now have an extra 200 grand to work with to attempt to cure a horrible disease that wrecks and claims millions of lives. I really do not see the downside?

If you consider the millions upon millions already donated to cancer then $200k just seems a little pathetic.

If they'd donated a couple of million at least I would probably take my hat off..

And before any one says anything else about cancer - yes, I have had family members die of it and yes, I'm more than aware how rotten it is. Which is why I feel even more than $200k is just a slap in the face a little bit. Especially when you consider that top level employees at Nvidia probably get bonuses five times that size and keep every penny to their piggy selves.
