As the tille suggests, it's pretty tough to assume what will be the G92 ? According to VR-Zone it's a GeForce 8700 GTS while Softpedia thinks that it's a GeForce 9800.

According to VR-Zone,

Vr-Zone said:
VR-Zone has learned more about the upcoming Nvidia G92 where the official marketing name is most likely to be GeForce 8700 GTS. As revealed earlier, G92 is 65nm based and has 256-bit memory bus width. The reference 8700 GTS card has 8-layer PCB and comes with 512MB GDDR3 1ns memories so the memory clock of G92 is estimated to be between 900Mhz to 1GHz. Core clock is unknown yet.

Well i donno if i should believe only those 3 sentences of Vr-Forums or not but if it's true, then the G92 is a disappointment for me atleast. :( I've expected a better thing from Nvidia.

And according to Softpedia,

The GeForce 9800 series of graphics processing units, GPUs for short, are based on the video processing chip codenamed G92 that is built by the Taiwanese contractor TSMC, using the 65 nanometer fabrication process. The complex architecture of the graphics chip and its capabilities are responsible for the fact that the G92 has over one billion transistors within. Going further than the 8800 series, Nvidia implemented in the G92 chips the second Generation Unified Shader Architecture as well as doubled precision support in the form of the FP64 technologies. As graphics processing units are now known for their parallel computing capabilities, the manufacturing company decided to make good use of them and integrate the GPGPU as a native technology.

Talking about parallel computing capabilities, well, the G92 GPU will hit the one teraflop mark with its shader processing units that comes in a MADD+ADD configuration which translates in 2+1 FLOPS=3 FLOPS per ALU (the shorthand for the arithmetic logic unit). The fully scalar design of the G92 series of GPUs is combined with a 512bit wide memory interface and an extended support for as much as 1GB of GDDR4 graphics memory. Graphics APIs supported are represented by the latest (in fact not yet released) DirectX 10.1 and its open source equivalent, OpenGL 3.0. Other new features of the G92 series are the support for "FREE 4xAA", an audio HDMI compliant chip, a tesselation unit built directly into the graphics core and improved performance and quality output of the AA and AF units.

While pricing for the GeForce 9800 series will vary wildly across the different manufacturers, two price ranges are being shuffled: 549-649 USD for the GeForce 9800 GTX and 399-449 USD for the GeForce 9800 GTS

Donno,whom to believe.Which one do you believe the G92 will be ? An 8700 GTS or a 9800 GTS/GTX or a 8900GTX/GTS ?

heres something iv come across, i think this points out to 8900's and not the 9800's as first thought

GeForce 8900 GS PCIe 0 1x G81 550/800 550/800 96/96/20 ? ?

GeForce 8900 GT PCIe 0 1x G81 600/900 600/900 96/96/20 ? ?

GeForce 8900 GTS PCIe 0 1x G81 600/1000 600/1000 128/128/24 ? ?

GeForce 8900 GTX PCIe 0 1x G81 700/1100 700/1100 128/128/24 ? ?

GeForce 8950 GX2 PCIe 0 1x G81 550/1000 550/1000 192/192/48 ? ?

I think it will be the 9 Series.. It has been a year since the 8 series came out.. sounds about right to me.. :)

Id bet its going too be an 8xxx. Due too the fact that ATI released a 9800 years ago.

Although i spose the released an 8500 too...

I'll wait for the official press release. ;)

It will be really disappointing if G92 isn't significantly faster than what's already available though. :(

The majority of things I've read recently point towards G92 being the 8700... it will provide nearly 8800 320MB performance, but be in the $225 price range. Would be nice if it was the 9800 series, but I doubt it...

I still have strong feelings that a 8950 (or whatever) will come out, maybe around, or just after/before the G9xxx series comes into realization. Equiv being the 7950 in the 7 series.

It would not make any sense at all for it to be pretty much another midrange card. Actualy, that would be retarted. Im sorry, but i just dont see Nvidia doing that after all the rumours and paper release of rumoured specs. Its obvious each G# increase ups the **00 increase. G70 7000 series, G80 8000 series, G90 9000 series. That makes more sense to me.

Where did you get that from ? Any link ? I couldn't understand the meaning of this portion " PCIe 0 1x " ?

I am guesing PCIe 0 means it will be using PCIe version 1.. instead of the new one coming soon version 2. Just a guess, but sounds about right..

But I haven't a clue about the x1.. makes no sense.

Didn't Nvidia promise a dual card edition ie GX2 of the 8x00 generation of cards?

If the above is true, I wouldn't be surprised if it is a 8900 and not a lower end card

VR-Zone is most likely correct. Usually, nvidia's high end parts are the lowest "model" or "code name." For example, G80 = 8800Ultra/GTX/GTS, while G84 and 86 are lower end models like the 8600GTS/GT and the 8500 series (and even lower).

I think it will be the 8700GTS.

Mid range cards are the bread and butter of nvidia. There is a huge gap between the 8600gts and the 8800gts.

Current mid range nvidia cards are appauling.

The 8700gts with excellent price:performance would be a good move and fill the gap...

Yes, i also think so.the G92 should fill the gap between the 8800GTS & 8600GTS & only the 8700GTS falls within that.

Btw, another proof of this info. This time it's from Ocworkbench. They are kinda confirmed about both the G92 & G98 too.

So, here it goes.

You can also see the release month of the G92 & G98.Now, i believe both the Vr-Zone & Ocworkbench have got pretty good connections & their news most of the times comes true. So, i'm also going with them.

If they dont release a real card (As in newer and better than 8800ultra) anytime soon before the AM3 release i will be extremely
