I'm not too keen on letting software do that, certain revisions of DDU have had problems in the past

Im glad you posted this. Latest DDU removed all recognition of my 980Ti cards. Windows only recognised the cards as Microsoft Basic VGA cards. Nvidia installer then failed not being able to recognise my cards.

Funnily enough Geforce experience saved the day and re-added the device ID. But an odd bug for sure.
