Nvidia Counters AMD's Moves

For me Nvidia have been up to some shady stuff of late so it puts me off giving them my money for new cards.

Nothings changed though Nvid for benching/folding

ATI for the best quality gaming

Most users are gamers so tbh they should be spending wisely and buying ati.

Total bandwagon non-news fabrications of nothing to take any serious note of, imo.

Only way any of these manufacturers are gonna impress me is to stop pussy footing around with midrange nonsense and push forward.

Can see why their not tho with little to push the market software wize.

It's a waste imo. Repeatedly buying meager cards on a more frequent basis or buy the top ones that are more expensive.

Rejoice. Honestly, I don't care so much with their rehashes on the G92, just keep yourself educated on what's being shelled out and what is the ideal purchase. This tight competition between them is good, especially for us, considering how sub $500 cards might finally reach the realm of affordability.

Sounds like someone is underestimating the 4890 to me... The '70 is close to the gtx260 and the '90 has been promised to boost performance with 20 to 30%. With the die shrink it might also have more overclocking headroom, beating the gtx260.

Weird to see nVidia going to value way :/

not good enough nvidia... you shouldn't play catch up to ATI you should be playing beat ATI... and knowing nvidia they just release a renamed version of the GTX260 55nm...

I don't honestly think nVidia think of Ati when they do stuff. Their pricing would be more reflective if they did.

Similar to how Intel release things without any thought of what the current AMDs are doing. New stuff from the competitor is maybe different, if they're a threat that is.

Wish they did think of Ati tho ;)

thats quite funny considering it goes against everything that ever happens in business... i would bet you my left testicle and then throw in my right one for free that they do and btw i know they do because they have a department called "competetive research" in their marketing department... and just to clarify its research on their COMPETITORS!

Sure they look at them. Only an idiot wouldn't. That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying they don't bear them any mind when they make their own stuff in terms of competition. I don't feel they push them enough to warrant too much consideration.

whats more likely a MULTI-million dollar firm doesn't consider their competitors or the fact they are so money-hungry,consumer unfriendly and just nastyily greedy that they dont use what they know and instead say, HEY i know lets rob consumers that dont know Jack about computers and rename our products over and over and over again... Its not that ATI isnt a competitor or that Nvidia dont feel them breathing down their necks, its just that Nvidia just dont know how to run a honest business... dont get me wrong as well the best GPU i ever had was the 8800GTX and it was donkey years more advance then the ati equiv just that Nvidia need to realise that ATI are kittens they will come and bite back... I may even hazard a guess that if ATI release a HD4890x2 it may beat the GTX295....

Nah, u'r looking at it from a fanboi pov rather than the market as it stands.

These people who post similar drivel to the "shady dealings" are merely fueling the justification of having a lesser card in their pc and wouldn't buy the competitor if it were 10x faster.

(this is the bit where u don't read further and react)

The matter that nVidia can get away with charging more for their cards, and losing less money as a company as a whole than AMD, is a poor situation for the market and has been for some time.

Ever since the 8800GTX hit the scene, nVidia have had very very little reason to pump into pushing out ball-breaking speed cards cos of the lack of competition.

We may have smerked at people buying these expensive cards, but look at the likes of Kemp - he bought his Ultra years ago and really has little reason to upgrade it. Sure he can get some meger fps % increase, but what's the point ? Meanwhile others who wouldn't perhaps have outlayed on such a card have gone through numerous upgrades.

The sad thing is the competition in both performance, quality and api just isn't there. Maybe after a law suit or 3 to share information it might be.

Personally I'm an AMD fan, have bought masses of the stuff in the past, and it's not healthy, imo, that for the last so many years have not competed with Intel or nVidia enough. Gave me a real headache to start buying Intel cpus tbh. I'm hoping for AM3 to be big, but it's a long winded process.

AMD have to be pretty careful. They lost a huge amount of cash just in the last quarter of 08, and I'm w8ing to see Q109 for some improvement. The last thing I want to see - ever - is for AMD to start filing depts cos they can't make enough money to be viable.

Intel had a massive loss in takings from year on year, but put out a profit altogether. In the current climate that's crazy.

The last thing anybody who claims to be an enthusiast wants is for AMD to get into trouble.

The sad thing is, if they were competitive with Intel, Intel's cpus would be that much cheaper (*cough* £800+) - if they were more competitive with nVidia, the likes of the GTX280/285/290/295/360/380 wouldn't be as expensive as they are AND sell.

What if i told you i've only ever had one ATI GPU and 5 Nvidia ones and i agree with you to some degree that over the last few years there hasnt been much change perhaps over the last 2 years what 15fps diff between single die cards.... but i say Nvidia should push harder as that will make ATI puch back even harder and thats whats best for the consumer the best products at the lowest price... Nvidia needs to understand that we as a consumer buy their products and that we also need to be happy with their products at the same time... there new naming scheme of the G92 is ridciulous and i think unless nvidia step up its bad for us the most... its like rowing a boat if both paddles worked the GPU would make break throughs almost every year... but with one paddle we make mediocre progress....

Yeah they should push for more progress, I agree with u there. I think I made many threads on this forum about it over the years.

The thing the other guys (*I think*) hammered home is the simple fact that - they don't need to.

Why spend loads of cash on bringing out a card that could double the fps of a 4890 when all they need to do is beat it by 10% atleast for people to buy it.

The whole naming thing has been taken way out of context. The naming was debated on forums when the 8xxx series was about, as sure enough most enthusiasts realized that after the 9xxx - what's gonna come then ?

Thing about it is, time moves on, production moves on. If ur 8 series gpu is still selling, and the 8 series plant is going, u may aswell stick it in the 9 series - label it according to it's status within the 9 series. And so on with the switch over to the GT200 series.

Ur current range is the GT2xx and the older gpus are still selling, u have to classify them within the range. It's product placement, marketing and so on. The 8 series marketing people have probably all moved on, as the 9 series people will soon enough. GT2xx is the current.

Now if they had called the proposed GT250 or 240 the GT282 or 287 - I would have been in complete and TOTAL agreement with all those shouting wolf! They would be telling every1 that the NEW card is better as it's labeled.

But they're not, they're leveling the name at a lesser number, it has a bios rejig and some component switches.

If ATi release a 4890 that tops a GTX280/285, with api and physx etc, then nVidia may buck their ideas up - but it's not gonna happen this side of a fistful of lawsuits for sharing info.

It's a sad way for the industry to go, but just like the whole of the computing industry being held back because of money being more important, so will these components.

Since about 1995, the computer industry stuck it's breaks on, slowly. We're feeling it that much more as the years go by.

Lol until the industry becomes fair il moan till the cows come home... and who knows maybe one we will see some progress... all im saying is that ATI needs respect for atleaste improving :D and i think Nvidia need a sharp kick to their backside... perhaps all of us at oc3d should chip in togethr and become tha majority share holder of Nvidia and then give them the mandate of making new and majorily improved GPUs...

erm, *checks back pocket*, oh I don't seem to have quite the $260 million odd needed to become a majority shareholder...

oh well =)
