Nvidia confirms that the GTX 1060 will not support SLI

Nvidia has confirmed that the GTX 1060 will not support SLI saying that they are focusing SLI on the enthusiast gaming/hardcore markets.

This is really bad. I am one of those who buy one card at launch, and then I buy another for SLI when the next generation launches 2 or so years later. This way I can keep up with a good fps and still have a reasonable budget. I am considering AMD now. Thanks Obama!

The 1060 was never going to compete with the RX 480 though. First up, there's absolutely no way in hell that they would have ever sold it for $199 and secondly Nvidia want to make their cash out of high end GPUs, not cheaper ones like this.

To manufacture these cards it pretty much means stopping 1070s and 1080s just to make them and Nvidia are making LOLcash out of 1070s and 1080s.

This is vapor. A paper launch, literally just to try and stop some AMD sales. The problem is we are already about to see custom aftermarket 480s hit at non gouge prices (well, £250) and that should pretty much put an end to the 1060.

Don't get me wrong I would not Crossfire two 480s if some one gave me them free so losing SLi on the 1060 is no biggie, it's everything else about the launch that annoys me.

I've heard that Nvidia are having yield issues due to clock speeds on the 1070 and 1080 so they could make a few 1060s using those failed cores? not sure on that yet. Either way though don't expect these to be plentiful any time soon.

1060 isnt enthusiast, $300 so basically £300 and thats not top tier enough i can see Nvidia taking a turn for the worst here, this reminds me of the whole Xbox one "i can implement what i want because im big enough" scenario.

I'm actually not against this to be honest, sli for 4k on the 900 or 1000 series makes sense, anything below that, getting to the point of not worth it.

I don't get this move from nVidia. One of SLi's strong selling points has always been the possibility to upgrade in graphics power when you need it - even in the mainstream segment !

This cards was extremely popular back in the day of SLi release and it was mainstream... and adding another card to it later on made it just as strong as the top enthusiast card.

I think instead of dropping this upgrade path in mainstream nVidia sould drop SLi on the low end cards like GeForce 9500GT etc. :huh:

I don't see the point of SLI. If you want to buy two of these at $259 then just buy a 1070 or 1080 instead. Little bit more future proof too. Just means saving a little bit longer.

Yes and no, I really don't see SLI as a gaming thing anymore (never really did tbf) some devs will hit the nail on the head and that's great stuff, but where SLI really shines is in production stuff like video or 3D rendering. 3DSMax, Maya & Blender love SLI and the difference between single and multiple GPUs is mind blowing.

That'll be the latter seeing as no company has ever included a bridge with an Nvidia card ever.

If your board supports SLi they come with the board. It was Crossfire where you would get a bridge with the card.
