nTune memory test.

Just wondering if anyone had used the ntune memory benchmark.

Its a very simple and quick test that is hardly reliable but I was wondering what scores peple are getting on it.

Its best to run it just after booting into windows and the first 3 runs are the best. It scores your ram on read, write and latency performance.

If you got ntune installed give it a run and post your score. Cheers guys.

DFI do recommend that you DONT use ntune at all on their NF4 products - therefore I do not.

Strange how it's plastered all over the box I know - check it out at www.dfi-street.com

Yes I agree with them not to use ntune as far as the overclocking tool is concerned as this has only ever caused system crashes on every nf4 board I have tried it on.

What I am talking about is a very quick and simple benchmark that is far less stressful that Prime95 of pi. It only takes a few seconds to complete. There as some v.handy tool in ntune which I have never had a single prob with like the nvidia moitor that gives a quick overall view of your systems & vga temps, ht, ram, pci-e, vga core and vga ram speeds. It also tells you your voltages but these are sometime inaccurate.

Its true that the ntune auto overclock tool is useless and I believe that this is what Dfi would have been talking about, this rest of ntune works fine.:)

I have found this to be much more reliable than speedfan of mobo monitor.

I'll have a looksie then ;) - sounds interesting enough to try the non-overclocking functions.

Not too sure about the memtest though - is it more useful than say 4or8m superpi as a 'quick' test?

No I wouldn't say its more or less useful, it does tell you 3 different ratings, the read, write and latency speed which can be useful. I found that my redlines had a slightly better read speed than the ocz vx altough the vx had slightly better write speed when run at the same settings, but as the reds could o,clock higher the write speed really improved when at the same cpu speed as the vx's.

Its far from a good benchmarking tool, its just that I personally am interested in what scores you guys are getting in the memory test with different ram, timmings, bios setting, ect, ect.

cheers.

Right - loaded up current nvidia version and version 3 - neither recognise the manufacturer of my rather special BH5 ram - but double clicked on the ram and got spd error - now I know this is rock solid stable stuff and my rig is running 240x12 at the moment.

The temp monitor tells me my case and graphics are all running at 30 degrees (which I already knew) and it wont register CPU temps - although I know I am running the CPU -30degrees (smartguardian temps -260 = real sub zero temp).

For me it's not useful at all, unless I am doing something wrong - in which case it goes in the 'too difficult' folder as there are tools that (for me) are easier to use.

Worth a try though.

Ok Mav, the thread was for the memory test but never mind.

Geo - tell me if I am doing something wrong and point me in the right direction, I am willing to give it a go (even thought I though I already had and explained what happened).

As I said before I double clicked on the DIMM identifications where it failed to identify the RAM I was using and some sort of test started but with 'SPD failure' in the display - knowing the rig is rock solid (played COD for 4 hours straight and encoded several xmas home vids) I can only assume that Ntune does not like what it sees.

But if there is a magic button that says 'memory benchmark' that I have somehow missed or if indeed you post instructions and screenies with details of the ntune version you are using - I am happy to give it a try :)

Not true for me my friend - It does NOT register negative temps (or in my case any CPU temps at all).

The voltage display is the same as smartguardian (I wont use speedfan on an EXPERT board, but I prefered that to all others).

It did not recognise my RAM and fails a test because of this. The whole interface is more difficult to navigate than you think is possible.

Others might find it more useful - Give it a try and post your experiences here guys :)

Yes there is a button that says benchmark, memory performance.

I personally find it better than speedfan due to the fact that when I run speedfan on my dfi expert board it causes it to hang and will not boot again until I go into safemode and remove it, I find the system speeds useful as I to use phase so the lack of - temp reading is no good for me, not to say it wont be for other guys tough.

If you dont already use it then you are not missing anything by not doing so, its only a very quick bench that really only tells if your new overclock is better than your last.

Anyway back on topic, if anyone uses the small memory bench in ntune please post your read, write, latency score. Cheers.

Back to my original questions:

What version are you using?

Post a screen dump and instruction on how to run it - I feel sure I missed a trick or in fact using a newer version to you.

But as stated at the beginning I'd like to try it, just dont know how, or if in fact it's there in newer versions.

As you correctly stated speedfan dont work and I suspect was partly responsible for killing my best EXPERT board (of the 3 I have used so far ;))
