Novice in desperate need of help for water cooling in 800D!

Hello!

I am thinking of water cooling my current system in my Corsair Obsidian 800D. However, I'm a complete noob so I have no idea what to do or what to buy. Note that I am swedish so I need stuff from over here. A good store (or so I have heard) is indomo: http://www.indomo.se/

Now, here is my current system:

Chassi: Corsair Obsidian 800D

Motherboard: Asus PT6D Deluxe

CPU: Intel Core i7 930 @ 3.8ghz

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 470 SLI

PSU: Corsair HX850W

RAM: Corsair Dominator PC12800 3x2GB @ 1.8ghz

HDD: 300GB Velociraptor, 500GB Samsung

I am being told that cooling the motherboard is unnecessary, so I will not do that (unless someone proves otherwise).

I have the following fans in my 800D:

Stock fans (1 intake bottom, 1 over HDD-bay, 1 exhaust) and 3 fans on top. These are Scythe Slip Stream 120mm 800rpm. I also have 2x Fractal Design Silent Series 120mm laying about, and currently I have 1x Noctua NF-P1 120mm and 1x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1150rpm on my CPU-cooler.

I was thinking of cooling my CPU and my 2 GPUs. I don't want to modify the case so please refrain from suggesting that (cutting, drilling, etc). I would really appreciate some help!

you would be ok qith a double but i would use a tripple for the CPU,i think for the 470's you might need a quad as there quite hot and to get any benifet of WC you would need a big rad.

so its deffo 2 loops,i would just WC the CPU i think you would have to light mod the case to fit another big rad in

I need a entire triple rad for the CPU, only?! How come people cool their system with a H50/H70 which is a single rad? I thought triple rad would work for atleast CPU+GPU, at most CPU+2xGPU.

The h70 is gash. Youd want a 240 for the cpu to be comfortable with a high overclock and still be able to use quiet fans. Youll 100% NEED A MINIMUM OF A 360 for the 470 sli as they are silly hot. Better off just getting 2x 460's as they outbench a 480 anyways.

Gash? You mean overkill/extreme? I am running 3.8ghz @ 1.17v, topping somewhere around 70-75c currently which I am perfectly fine with. I actually do have 2 460s atm, but I am "upgrading" to a pair of 470 soon. Is that a bad idea? I have not seen any blocks for the 460s yet (I have the Gigabyte GTX 460 1gb model).
 
no he means absolute rubbish,if tom says a double then i guess you will be fine with a double i just thought you would need a triple and while theres room in the top why not,there will be a block soon for the 460's DOOOOOOOOOOOONT swap them for 470's thats just silly the 460 is a monstor in sli and when overclokced

Oh okay... I thought it did quite good? Outperformed all aircooled solutions? Either way. Will 3x120 rad be able to cool 2x GTX 460 1gb in SLI and my cpu? These are my current temperatures:

The high cpu temps are under Small-FFT load, low are idle (screen was taken right after i ended the test). The GPU1 hits 70-80C depending on game, GPU2 hits 60-70C depending on game (usually around 65C).

My SYSFANIN and AUXTIN values are completely nuts, don't know why. Also, CPU-Z says 1.176v, not 1.18v like hwmon.
 
i would say a triple for the 460's and a dual for the CPU,them i7s run hot fella as you can see,the 460's arnt to bad
 
If you get a decent 360 like the pa120.3 then you would proably be ok unless you really started cranking the volts.

Couple that up with a ddc ultra pump and youll be fine

I will not overclock the CPU any more, it works fine for now. The GPUs will be overclocked a lot though (I will definitely crank up the volt on them). I am unable to find neither of the products you suggested on any swedish website

Another question. You said if I get a good 3x120 rad it will work. But will it lower my temps or will it still be the same (or worse)?
 
so a triple for the cpu and a triple for both 460's

if thats the case it will be fine and you will have lower temps,especialy for the GPU's

No, not a triple for both.

3x120 on the top of the case and a 1x120 or 1x140 at the back of the case. Thats the most I can do without chopping the case up.
 
singke rads are awfull they are rubbish,you could mount it outside the case via a swiftech bracket so you could get 2 triples.

I've been told that using rads outside of the case is rubbish, too. I don't know why, but apparantly its not any good.

A couple of things, single rads are only useful for low heat things. I use one for my motherboard (NB, SB, Voltage Regs).

Second, you will want a minimum of a dual on the CPU, as they are a lot more susceptible to heat. A triple on both GPUs should see the temps go down to maybe 40C-50C. Go for full cover blocks (i.e. all ram etc. is covered) for GPUs as they are much better and will get better clocks.

As for pumps, you want either a D5, which are pretty bulky but great for flow rate, or the Laing DDC (Swiftech), ideally an ultra, but they only do the plus. With the DDC you want an EK DDC top (or possibly one with a resevoir on it). One pump and top for each loop.

For tubes, I prefer a larger diameter (1/2" Inner diameter, 3/4" outer), http://indomo.se/ind...ode=list&id=601 tygon is my favourite

Then use G1/4" thread barbs (6.35mm thread) built for tube with 13mm ID, and get worm drives for these. http://indomo.se/ind...show=57&mini=65

I can't find worm drives, but look this up on watercooling uk, then find them in that site (my swedish is non existent).

Buy PTFE tape to help seal the barbs.

In terms of waterblocks, the GTX 460 blocks have not been released yet, but wait for them as they will cool much better than the blocks you had picked out.

Finally, using rads outside the case is a very much subjective thing. I couldn't fit a quad rad in my case, and didn't want to clutter up my main PC with pumps and what not, so everything in mine is snaked away in long hoses, then the rads and pumps sit in another PC. It can look very messy, and has a lot more danger, in that the fans can be stopped/broken more easily. On the other hand, a leaking radiator isn't going to leak all over your pride and joy.
 
Thanks for the very informative reply! I spoke to another guy who runs the same rad I am thinking of buying:

i7 920 @ 3,8GHz = 60C

5970 @ 850/1250 = 45C

and NB/SB/Mosfets water cooled aswell. All on a single 3x120 rad. I think thats pretty good, is it not? As for the pump, I was suggested to buy: http://coolingstuff.se/p/114/ek-water-blocks-dcp-4-0 but you suggested a D5. Whats the difference really? I don't want any vibration or noise from the pump, I want it to be a silent system. And if I want/need a reservoar I should buy: http://coolingstuff.se/p/278/xspc-dual-5-25-acrylic-res-pump (according to this guy, since I dont want to drill in my case). Good/bad suggestions?

I only know the laing DDC and D5s. The DDC is my favourite as it is quiet, great head pressure and flow rate. The D5 is adjustable and very powerful.
