Not a joke with my keyboard

Basically some clown sat next to me last night split coke on my keyboard (coke as in carbonated drink :) ) now a lot of the keys stick and a have to literally punch my space bar for it to work

Would it be safe to wash it in the sink as long as i gave it a decent amount of time to dry without using it?

I've read somewhere that its fine to put it in the dishwasher, other places that its not.

Ive cleaned mine with a damp sponge and under the tap, left it out to dry for a couple of days before I dared plug it in again. It was happy enough and still works fine.. without the crackle of crisps with every key sadly :D

Where I used to work, we used to take keyboards appart and soak the rubber and plastic parts to clean them, then leave them to dry for a few hours.

That was mainly with more expensive keyboards tho like mac ones etc.

Keyboards don't really cost enough to warrant it these days (unless you have one of those logitech ones with a LCD)

Its a saitek eclipse...Wil the circuitry be alright if i take the keys off...put in dishwasher/in the sink and scrub it down aslong as i make sure its totally dry afterwards?

It has LEDs...

You could give it ago. Not much to lose really.

It doesn't sound like it's of much use at present.

1) It might work after going through a wash. (I'd leave it to dry overnight)

2) It doesn't work and you can always buy another for about £20

If you have access to one of those high powered steamers then it might be better than putting it in water. Maybe a steam iron on the strongest steam setting. (Although the keyboard may run the risk of melting from the heat)

The best stuff to use is foam anti-static cleaner as it dry's quite quickly :)

Altho if you can buy a new one for £20, I'd just buy a new one :)

Once you've removed all the keys it's gonna take a long time to put them back in the right place.

Yea but it was an accident and he is my mate :p

I did manage to allow a really bad virus out of quarantine on his pc when switching his AV program wiping everything previously...

So then - best bet is dishwasher on rinse mode with all keys removed (and put in the utensils section - with no soap yar??

i guess so,nothing to loose really

if it doesnt work after that then just rma it

i can imagine now...rma person 'whoa this is possibly the cleanest kb we have replaced' :rollingla

Clean it by hand tbh. Use whatever, then dry in something like an airing cupboard.

Used to work with the old Amiga500s, many a coke`n`coffee spilt on them.

Then of course u can also pop the keys and clean it like that perhaps. U can usually stick something under them and prize them off - be very careful tho, maybe try a rarely used key first.

I just pop all the keys off with a butter knife, unscrew the back and wash everything other than the electronics with hot soapy water

it is perfectly ok to bung your kyeboard into a dishwasher, with nothing taken apart

i've done it before, many times, its nothing too serious.

this is what i do...

tape usb plug

set dish washer to lowest/quickest cycle, with nothing added, ie, no washing up liquid etc etc

as soon as dish washer is finished, wipe keyboard with dry towel, then leave to dry in somewhere that gives off heat, ie, above boiler

over night, next morning, plug keyboard back in comp, BOOM! it works

I'd go 50/50 on the ideas tbh. If you take the eclipse apart, the key part of the keyboard separates from the rest of the keyboard so you can clean the keys without getting the circuit wet.

I'd also consider wrapping the key part in a sheet and putting it in the washing machine (no spin cycle) so you can control the heat?

I'm sorry, I'm absolutely cracking up at the thought of putting a keyboard in the dishwasher or washing machine rofl!! :rollingla

I mean I know it'll probably be fine, but I can't stop laughing at the thought of it :D

My keyboard needs a bit of a clean actually, perhaps I'll have a bath with it :rotfl:

Sorry, I'm being stupid now, but it's a Monday morning and this thread has made me chuckle :)

Best of luck with the washing though! Hope it works! :wavey:
