non-air cooling systems..

im pretty new to liquid cooling and sub-zero cooling..

when would these come in handy over air cooling? when you want to seriously overclock, sure, but what else?

thats it

not a great deal of people actually NEED their watercooling.

you may argue that having a 360/480 rad allows the use of slower fans and reduces noise but then you have pump noise to deal with

my friends fan and the one i have is dead silent.. how loud would the pump be? i would have thought it would be not so irritating/ barely audible

Depends on which pump, they tend to generate a low humming at the most but you will need to mount it in a manner that prevents vibration, which can be tricky in some cases

You will find most people watercool for the following reasons:

  • Silence - Passive/active loops good for environments that need silence like recording studios etc as the pump etc can be housed in a different room
  • Looks - As normal just for showing off
  • Cooling - this sounds silly but you will find some hardware today tends to overheat and need extra cooling (evga 680i cough)
  • Overclocking / benchmarking - obvious..

One of my choices for water cooling is to prolong the life of my components. Not only do your components work better but they generally last alot longer.
