Noise from GPU while scrolling?

So,

While on chrome, if I scroll down the page using the slider (not the up or down arrows or the mouse wheel) my gpu makes a noise.

I've read on other forums that people are having the issue but nothing worked for me. I've tried enabling smooth scrolling but still get the noise.

The closest I can get to describing the noise is scraping your finger nail down your mousemat :)

I cant hear the noise in games or any graphical intensive applications (may be because the fan noise drowns it out, but I dunno)

If this is confusing people I'll try and put it up on youtube but they may be difficult for me to do due to lack of equipment...

I know it's not exactly damaging the card in any way, just the noise is really annoying.

Cheers

I get something similar, I actually think it's your speakers. Try disconnecting all speakers (not turning them down, actually unplugging them or switching them off) and see what happens.
It's really fricken annoying.

Hmm, getting odder...

Enabling: GPU compositing on all pages fixes the issue on the forums...but it remains on certain other pages. On the chrome menu it stays on, and on facebook the sound changes to a crackling.

This is coilwhine, either from PSU or GPU, my guess is the GPU.

If it's really annoying you can consider RMA the card but before RMA test different PSU's to see if the GPU coilwhine decreases.

It's definitely from the card, although my AX850 does generally whine a lot. I think I will get it RMAed, especially now 7950s are £40 cheaper than when I got mine. Should be able to get a refund and get that money back
