Noctua to give free upgrades to support Skylake Z170 CPUs

Good old Noctua this is quite impressive that they have done this to say the least :)
If only other companies would take a page out of their book

So I guess I was right then. If a user followed the instructions for older CPUs they could well indeed break their Skylake CPU without doing anything more than the manual tells them to do.

Just another example of Noctua's awesomeness, though. Of all of the PC companies over the years Noctua never ever fail to amaze me.

If someone decides to follow 775 instructions and somehow magically make a bracket with the wrong hole spacing fit their motherboard then I guess they might break it. But the only person i've seen stupid enough to attempt such a thing would be Jay2cents and quite frankly, he deserves it. The kit is for coolers that predate 115X and doesn't address the change in thickness in any way, because it's not a problem.

I'm so glad you're observant JR.

If you look at the top right corner you will clearly note it says 115x So I would strongly imagine that this is why Noctua have offered free replacements. Is it their fault that Intel skimped on Skylake and made them thinner? I personally don't think so at all and feel bad for companies like Noctua who now have to fork out to make sure that their coolers don't destroy customer's CPUs.

Nice of you to take that attitude though. You know? the l33t "Just because some one knows less than I do they are immediately thick and deserving of any bad luck" one.

If you drill holes through the PCB of a £200 motherboard, then yes, you do deserve all bad luck and your thick in my opinion.

The instructions your repetitively quoting are the same for all SecuFirm mount coolers, the screws have bosses which physically prevent over tightening. If you used any 115X mountings with a thinner chip then the springs will exert slightly less pressure on the CPU, it's hardly a change that will result in damage.
