No GDDR7? AMD's RDNA 4 CPUs reportedly use slower GDDR6 memory

Makes it cheaper and brings them to market sooner. Whenever they do a refresh they can update to GDDR7 once it becomes higher volume production lowering costs at launch and giving significant performance improvements.

I do doubt it'll be 18Gbps though for the entire lineup. I could see them using it for the lower end cards.

Yeah, I agree. Get these out to steal as much thunder from Nvidia as possible. Nvidia can crush AMD at the 'insane' range while AMD can continue to crush Nvidia in the 'sane' range. They've been doing it for a few years now and it's helped put them in a far better position. I see farrrrr less 'common' people presuming to buy Nvidia. Many of my friends in real life who would always have bought an Nvidia card like a 60 or 70 class GPU have gone AMD. In the zeitgeist of PC gaming, AMD is reputable and respectable name now, and not just in CPUs.

Yup. I don't think they could have made it any clearer when they said they refused to compete with £1700 GPUs. What the world needs is affordable ones, not stupid pre covid priced stuff with lolprices.

I would be surprised if Nvidia do not back off of making titanic GPUs either. Especially in the current climate.

Meanwhile I do both understand and agree with you all, there's also aestethics to some and to me, Nvidias founders edition, specifically the new Super models are just absolutely sexy. Blows AMD out of the water to be honest and if I'm going to see the GPU inside my case, as I personally want to admire my creation etc, then to me, it's worth the extra cost in the long run to be honest.

The FE models just feels well built and premium in a different way, and this is not being an Nvidia fan boy at all. Absolutely despice the prices as well, but gotta give credit where credit is due though.

AMD has certainly come a long way, both being competitive in both specs (memory amount) and price, albeit lacking a bit in the efficiency department still. But considering where they have come from, almost went bankcrupt a before Ryzen, just goes to show that my hat off to AMD for that.

The reason why FE cards are made like that is because Nvidia sell them directly. If they were to sell them to retailers and then they put their cut on? you would not be able to afford them.

Are they nice? yes, very. However, IMO it was a douche move from Nvidia to do that. It undercuts their own customers, and forces them to release horrible plastic cards to even get close on price.

Which is why EVGA stopped being a customer. EVGA liked to make uber cards, but Nvidia restricted them severely on what they could then charge for those cards. Meaning it just wasn't viable any more.

The world has changed badly dude. Inflation is higher than any leader wants to admit, food prices are through the roof and we are in a recession. It just hasn't been announced as world leaders are trying desperately to pretend we are not.

Take for example bike parts. Tonight I bought a wheel with a RRP for £1000 for £199. Brand new, with delivery included. I had agreed with a price from the seller who then ghosted me out of greed and he gambled and lost. Even I was amazed that absolutely no one else bid, but then I am in a position where I don't have to watch every penny. However, that is not what is happening absolutely everywhere else.

The thing with EK? that is another clear reminder that over priced luxury items are out. Just completely and totally off the table for near on every one. Well, any one who has children or anything remotely close to responsibilities.

PC companies will be next. CCL already went under, but got rescued. As did Box. TBH whoever ponied up the cash will likely regret it badly.

World is a very different place since Covid and war. And that reality is now settling in.
