Hey guys

Just wanted a second opinion really before buying the NH D14, I currently have the corsair H50 with push pull config. Im just a beginer/experimental overclocker at the moment but im not happy with my temps. Ive read the NH D14 will generally drop 5-10C off load temps. With my I7-950 @ 4.0ghz at 1.3v with HT enabled im hitting 87c which im not happy with at all. This isn`t stable either so i may have to go higher on the cpu volts. Anyone had both coolers running on the same cpu?

cheers

Yeah i do, was really looking for confirmation that it will lower temps though

Sell the H50 on Ebay they sell like hotcakes on there and you should get ~£45-£50 easy for it, and yes you will definietly get lower temps with the D14.

The H50 gets owned by the D14 (to put it in a non-explicit way). I have the H50 and would upgrade to the D14 in a heartbeat. Yes, you will get lower temps. You also need to remember, though, that the 950 does run hot and you won't get a dramatic improvement in temps but definately 5-10 degrees

Go. For. It.

you will only get better performances with the H50 with a pull/push 120mm fan config... which leads to a noisy setup - the D14 is the better bet, as the 140mm fans are quieter

i have a i7 950 in my setup at the moment with the same motherboard as you aswell and im seeing 77 max temp after like 20 mins of prime95 large ffts, using the noctua

Have you considered either the Silver Arrow or the Prolimatech Genesis? All very similar performace for quite similar prices.

I installed my first NH-D14 last week for a friend. I knew it was big, but in person it's absolutely huge. It was also one of the most pleasant installs I have ever done on a cooler. It was extremely simple to install and feels securely in place. I'd go as far to say that it's _almost_ idiot proof. I'm to the point where I want to build a second folding rig just so I can get an NH-D14 for myself.

Got the NH D14 installed now and i can say all the stuff u hear about this cooler is true. Completely destroys the H50 push pull

H50

Idle = 37c average

Full load 5 mins of prime 85c average

NH D14

Idle = 33c average

Full load 5 mins of prime 66c average

I opened the the back door and turned my case fans up to let the cold air in and the temps went down into the high 50`s

The above results were @ 4.0Ghz 1.3v

You should take some pictures for comparison and post them here so everybody can see and there won’t be no need to argue about the issue H50 vs D14

Moral of the story:

Noctua NH D14 if you can fit it just pay the 10 quid more, it’s not extra/overpriced it’s a privilege to have it!
