Nfams' Personal Rig

Hey guys/gals. This is my PC. It originally started as a cheap first PC but I upgraded as we all do and it sort of got out of hand :) It did have a I3-2100 and 6870 and a Silverstone PS05. An excellent first gaming PC. Then I decided to upgrade the CPU cooler for a quieter model along with a CPU upgrade I'd always intended on doing. An I5 would've probably cut it but the price difference between that and a Xeon E3-1230 V2 wasn't that much. After a LOT of research on the cooler and CPU a 1240 came up (I7-3770 equal) on a local ebay equivalent. I grabbed it right away along with a Antec 920 and some corsair SP 120 fans. When it arrived I was Mega excited. Got my friend to help with the install as a bios update was required. Long and behold the cooler wouldn't fit in the back where I wanted it so I reverted to the stock cooler for a while. Case was the next upgrade then. Fractal R4 seemed like a perfect choice. After a few more years I have ended up with this.
- Xeon E3-1240 V2 cooled by a Antec H20 920 with SP 120 fans
- 8GB Kingston ram (probably need 16 for the photoshop I sometimes do with GTA V)
- MSI P65-GD65 B3 and the star of the show GTX 970 Golden edition
- Sandisk Extreme 2 240GB and 1TB WD blue drive (original one) and a WD Red 4TB backup and storage drive
- Corsair TX 750 V2 (really want a quieter one but this was a bit of a steal)

I like this PC a lot and if you guys have any suggestions for an upgrade or comments on this build leave them down below. Cheers

Ooh hadn't seen this yet. Neat looking system mate.

Personally, I'd get some black Sata cables to replace those funky looking red ones. I'm also not a fan (pun not intended) of the top fan (is it an intake as well?). It's not really necessary with 2 intakes and the exhaust in the rear. That'd also mean you'd have positive air pressure which will help you keeping dust out the case.

And do you really need a DVD drive? :p

hehe god looking system there m8! fun to see a not the norm kind of build. Now u just need to fix those red satacables and ya set xD

Thanks guys. Yes it is intake so 3 intake and 1/2 exhaust on the 920 are not needed? Funny thing about those sata cables is the were ordered as 3 black sata cables. When they arrived and were red I was pissed :( DVD drive is a yes for me as playback is nice and quieter than a ps3. Nothing naughty happens with it..(RIP)

Personally I like the way the top fan matches the copper from the gpu heatsink and the tx label on the psu. I too would swap out the red sata cables but maybe look at changes the blue accents on the other fans and ram to match the top fan so you've got a black copper/tan thing going

Okay guys so I've switched out the TX to an RM series that I managed to snag just after Xmas for 30% off. Awesome as the modular cables and quietness of it is really good. I may also get into cable sleeving and a custom loop at some time in the future (few more years I hope) when I'd likely switch to a 950 Pro and 2011-3 equivalent at that time. Anyway have a good sunday.

Edit: Almost forgot got the top cover back in (removed the fan) and changed out the sata cables to black as was originally intended.

What she said :p...

I had missed this one as well and disappointed to do so. As some of the others have said, this is not the PC which fits in the "norm" around here, so very nice to see this kind of a build. Clean looking one as well mate, well done! :)

You know what that means! Pictures.

Nice rig though, love that 970 of yours.

Cheers all for the awesome words. I'll post an updated picture in the weekend as it's a bit of a pain to remove and reinstall in place. Also I'll be posting a future project in the weekend too so keep an eye out for that. I've been looking at these forums a bit lately and man are there some awesome modders/builders out there. Makes me so excited and unsure at the same time. Maybe I'll get into modding a bit later in the year when things have settled out.
Over and out.

Okay so in about end of October last year I had what I can only call a freak accident. I shut down my PC when I got home to install an update and it wouldn't start. Tried everything for about a week (as I was heading to Japan and Korea) then I decided I needed to look for a new motherboard while overseas. This chip was a great buy so I decide to try and stick with 1155. Also I'm a bit of a cheapo. Found a few Z77's in Japan but the money was the same as home so I left it till Korea. Great shopping in Yongsang with a friend and found a few the day before I was heading home. Picked up what I thought was a Z77 Intel board and what I had really been for a Leopold FC750R in white with front print (Highly recommended as a first mechanical keyboard.) No real markings and a bargain price so I was pleased. Got home and set it up and activated my windows with my microsoft account :) Easy as.
Turns out that I can't use more than 2 sticks of anything so I got a 16GB kit. All working good now. If it turns out I kill this in a few years and there is a big jump I will move but I am still greatly happy with this PC.
