What happend to simply getting a DVD player and hooking it up to your 5.1 and tv? Seriously, i dont give a rats ass about new media updates for a console, i want better graphics and better games. I have a computer for movies and crap. WII FTW.

Exactly how? Consoles are meant for games. Giving them all this media crap is just way to much. I dont pay for a console to play movies off of it, i pay to play games. Simply put.
Well I think these upgrades are a good idea - I haven't got a ps3/xbox 360 yet and I don't plan to till next christmas maybe - Feel sorry for current owners though
I can remember a console, being a console, a console. Not requiring updating and re-releasing and bags of buzzed media stuff to rally people to buy the next botched version.
Why can`t a console be released - and there u go - this is it, no problems ?
Sure they`re gonna be revisions and tweaks, but the used to be of the positive variety and not to patch up botched and misses promises of what u`r unit should be doing anyway (according to previous press release boasts).
And prehaps have a guarantee (not a purchasing guarantee) that it will work for 5 years.
And and and when are consumers gonna pressure them enough to just release a Box - that has universal game ports, universal media ports, universal networking ports, universal storage ports, universal display ports ?? That`d be more interesting.
Or rather, this box we all know and love, is just used for games like the good old times. Yoiu buy it, put a game in it, and play. Period. No movies, no internet, no TV, notta. Just a simple box to hook up and play.

I know you won’t agree with me, but the market is changing, console makers have realised that they can sell more consoles if they aim for a much wider target market. Which is exactly what they’re doing? It's all about bringing things forward, not just remaking old things a little better.
On a side note, the HDMI port has not been comfirmed by microsoft as of yet. They say they make prototypes all the time to experiment. So this *may* never see the light of the day. Personally i think it will.
