Ok my second D-link is almost dead. The wlan speed is down to 200-500kbps

The model is: D-Link DIR-655, Extreme N Wireless. I think i want to try another brand this time, and ive been looking at the Netgear products. The NETGEAR Dual Band 900 Wireless-N Router and the NETGEAR RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N seems good. Any other suggestions?

anyone have experience with the TP-LINK TL-WR2543ND 11n Gigabit Router?

The D-Link router I had died as well many years ago. Linksys is a Cicso company, and mine has been rock solid for a couple of years now.

I got a good deal on the NETGEAR WNDR3700 DUAL WIRELESS-N GIGABIT ROUTER. I might go for that one since its 35% rebate. I also looked at the LINKSYS E4200 MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE. Any thoughts about those two?

I think Netgear and Linksys are pretty solid quality wise, but I don't have any experience with those specific models.

Linksys seems to be rock solid most of the time. I think Trendnet is another one to try out.

One thing that wasnt so good is that i had to order it from a website. I always like to get these kinda products from a local store. Its so mutch less hazzle in the case of RMA and new product back or money back return. The local store didnt have any good gigabyte routers in stock...

Yeh, I know what you mean.

I know you already bought, but an excellent router is the ASUS RT-N16. It's not dual band, but has everything else. Best of all, it's DD-WRT compatible.

linksys wrt54gl (with tomato custom firmware) = excellent 4-port router + awesome wireless signal strength

I'd agree with you, but only G and no gigabit ports. The 54GL was my router of choice for many years, but sadly it's old tech. The ASUS I listed above is the new WRT54GL IMO and what has replaced my trusty old Linksys.

yes... the ASUS RT-N16 is a great router, and, if i ever need to upgrade i will definitely be looking alot closer into it. but, as my linksys works perfectly for my needs... if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it

Agreed. Mine finally crapped out after ~6 years so I had to replace it. My comment was in reference to buying new though. If someone were buying new today it wouldn't make much sense to buy G+100Mbit.

Ok thanks. I was looking at this: ASUS RT-N66U GIGABIT DUALBAND WIRELESS N ROUTER. But its not in stock before the end of the month, so i decided for the netgear one.

Forgot to say that linksys wrt54gl was my first router, so ive been there and done that. The tech is getting very old and it doesnt meet my demands.

Im returning the Netgear Dual Band 900 router to the store now and i am hoping that they give me back the money or let me pick out a different brand

Most likely they will give me same model and brand back, and if that happens im really hoping for a bug free Netgear product.

If i can choose i would now try one of these Linksys E4200 Wireless Dual-N Band, ASUS RT-N56U, ASUS RT-N66U

Maybe you could ask them to exchange for a model stepped down so you can load the DD-WRT firmware on it rather than have Netgear's 'buggy' firmware.

The Asus models look interesting. I need a new router too as my old one seems like it's about to break down.
